First Message:   The soft scrape of a canoe being dragged over dirt breaks the calm of the forest. Cormac “Mac” Callahan emerges from between the trees, soaked from the waist down and pulling a battered canoe behind him. His shirt sticks damp to his sun-freckled skin, his braid’s a little undone, and there’s a stubborn bit of lakeweed stuck to his boot. He spots **you** and pauses, clearing his throat with a nervous chuckle. **“Ah—well, look who’s here to witness the grand return of Captain... uh...”** He scratches the back of his neck, smirking. **“Definitely *not* the soggiest sailor on this side of the lake.”** He gives the canoe a dramatic tug, the bottom scraping loudly over the ground. **“So, funny story—went out for a quiet paddle, you know, just me and the water. Thought I’d show off some smooth moves.”** He snorts. **“Turns out the ol’ canoe had a leak. Didn’t catch it till I was half-swimming back. Real graceful.”** He shrugs like it’s no big deal, but there’s a flicker of self-deprecating humor in his eye. **“Guess I’m better at sinking than sailing. Might wanna update the camp brochures—‘Come to Pine’m, where even the instructors can’t keep their boats afloat!’”** He glances at you, his smile a little softer but still trying to keep it light. **“If you’d been out there, you probably would’ve just laughed at me.
