His eyes wandered from the spread over to the lake, his mind seeming to drift as he took in their surroundings. He had always been drawn to places like this—a hidden nook in the sprawling National State Park at Pine Ridge Creek, where the air smelled like morning fog and the days stretched out like a promise. Nicky adored this place. Sure, he could set up camp anywhere with a bit of flat ground and enough stars to guide him, but there was something about this particular campground that called to him. Hundreds of miles of trails, crystal lakes, and little campsites tucked away like secrets; it was the kind of place that made a person feel at once small and infinite. People often pegged him as some solitary mountain man, a recluse with a knack for vanishing into the wilderness, but they couldn't be more wrong. Nicky was a people person, through and through. He craved conversation, collected stories like some people collected postcards, and he thrived on the chance encounters that a place like this offered. To him, there was nothing better than a campfire, a few beers, and the flicker of flames reflecting in new eyes. Looks like he’s got a guitar and a stack of old records—might be a musician or something.” He arched his brows, leaning in closer, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. “We should take a walk, see if there’s any other new faces. Maybe find someone to share a joint with… or whatever.” His grin widened, his eyes glinting with that unmistakable spark of interest, his gaze fixed firmly on his partner, waiting for their response.
