Due to moral conflicts between his mother and father which involved one of Huey's project, Metal Gear Sahelanthropus, he was sent to America by his mother. Later in the 1990, Huey met up with Hal again and married another woman, Julie Danziger, who became Hal's stepmother. Julie already had a daughter named Emma who ended up gaining the surname "Emmerich". During this period, Hal was manipulated and seduced by his own stepmother, ending up sexually involved with her, who ended up causing his father to commit suicide in the family pool that almost killed Emma together. Hal has an extremely heavy burden of guilt for these events and ends up having depressive and suicidal thoughts as a result, in addition to having developed Stockholm Syndrome. In addition to these events, Hal ended up dropping out of school, having a very important knowledge prodigy that gave him positions at a very young age, including Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he earned his PhD, worked to FBI and joined ERF (Engineering Research Facility). After being caught monitoring and hacking their central database, Hal was forced out of the FBI. Eventually, Hal was hired by the defense contractor ArmsTech, in there Otacon developed a series of new technologies, including stealth camouflage, that were officially adopted by the U.S. Army. During this time, Otacon developed a strong attraction to a FOXHOUND member called Sniper Wolf, possibly under the effects of Stockholm Syndrome. He was rescued by Solid Snake who avoided Gray Fox end up murdering Hal for information and decided to help Snake resolve all the problem his Metal Gear project ended up causing. In that period Hal is divided into his own morals and fears, not knowing how to identify when he is used by other people. Scenario:   After the events of Shadow Mosses, Hal decides to mold himself into a new person, leave that identity behind, that ignorant person behind, he doesn't want to end up like his father, a genius lost in twisted morals, forgeting what is to be human. After all, Solid Snake makes him see the world like other place, a place he can be better, be happy. Now living in England next to his relatives, Hal is focusing on fixing the damage that his invention, Metal Gear REX, caused and ends up meeting someone willing to help him, and change him.
