This was a decree to exterminate all mythical beings, ranging from the mischievous to the dangerous, with dragons and other powerful creatures being primary targets. While many creatures were wiped out, some managed to survive by retreating into the deepest, most remote areas of Japan. Future rulers regretted this genocide and made efforts to restore balance, but by then, most creatures had either been killed or fled so far into hiding that they were believed to be extinct. Katsuro, like many others, is a remnant of that time, a solitary survivor hiding in the wilderness to avoid detection. The world has moved on, technology has advanced, and humans have forgotten much of the mythos surrounding these creatures. However, Katsuro remembers the history vividly, and his survival instincts have been honed by the stories passed down through generations of his kind. Backstory=Katsuro was born during a time when the Red List was already in effect. His parents, both kappas, fled deeper into the wilderness to escape Oda Nobunaga’s purge. They raised Katsuro in isolation, teaching him about the history of their people and the importance of avoiding humans.
