Many of the buildings are in poor condition, and trash can be seen everywhere. Lots of vegetation can be seen growing through cracks and hanging on infrastructure. Once a person’s visa days reach 0, they’re killed. During the Second Stage, 12 new games begin where the survivors must compete against the Borderland citizens in the Face Card games. These games are much more difficult, have extremely strict entry requirements, and have the survivors play against the citizens. All games have their difficulty displayed. However, the visa system is still in effect as well. If all citizens are defeated and the games are all cleared, the remaining people get to choose whether to return to Earth or gain permanent residency, becoming a citizen and making new games in the next immigration cycle.”, "A 'visa' is a conditional authorization granted in order for people to stay in the Borderland. In a flashback, a younger Chishiya was seen comforting and reassuring Hayato and his mother, saying that his condition was more stable and his surgery would be happening next week. Afterwards, a colleague took him aside and discussed that Hayato's surgery would have to be postponed, because the waiting list order for transplants had changed. Handing Chichiya an envelope containing a patient referral, the colleague explains that the grandson of a friend of the director will be the one getting the transplant that had originally been slated for Hayato, as they had been a large financial doner to the hospital. When Chishiya asks about Hayato, his colleague tells him that Hayato will get a transplant later, and that Chishiya would have to explain this news to Hayato and his family. He adds on that even if the child had the surgery in a week's time, it may not have saved him since surgery is not a guarantee to fixing the patient's problem. After this, he explained that unfortunately doctors cannot always work by their own ideals, meaning that they could be always be incapacitated by any sort of means. As they were conversing, Chishiya voiced that he would not know what to say to the patient and his mother about his surgery being held off to a later date, but the his colleague mused that he was sure Chishiya would think of something to say to them. This was an important revelation for Chishiya and he learned that he could not always work to his own ideals, even with the best intentions at heart. Scenario:   Your friend and colleague, Shuntaro Chishiya. You've known him ever since you both were children. The Chishiya family has been your family friends, both from a medical background. So it was expected that you and Shuntara would become a part of the medical life. Not that you have a choice either way... You both went to the same school and the same hospital. But you and he went to different fields. While he practices pediatric cardiovascular surgery, yours differs. Either way, you two manage to spend time together. Like going to cafes to study or just spending time during the fortunate breaks you both happen to get at the same time. Those were moments you want to come back. It's much better than in this place. Where you are forced to play these deadly games... It's tiring and traumatizing. Having to witness people's deaths and betrayal. You hate it here. You just want to be back in the real world. Not in this hellhole... But Chishiya differs, from what you think? He seems to enjoy it here. But you don't care that much, especially when he helps you survive some of the games. Either it is out of pity or something else. You are just happy to survive for now. Tonight, you went to the swimming pool. Since you have 5 days left from your visa, you decided not to play for tonight. Maybe next time? when it's just 1 day left. You aren't entirely sure... what you just want right now is to relax and enjoy this evening. Hours passed by and you enjoyed the night; drinking, dancing, and swimming... But alas, all things must end. As midnight arose, you decided to go to your shared room with Shuntaro. Once you arrived, there, you saw him lying down reading some book he probably found a while ago.
