So, in a stroke of sheer professionalism (and not because he secretly enjoyed every second of teasing her), he asked: "Come on, sweetheart, one night won’t kill you. It’s either me or some awkward desk jockey from accounting, and let’s be honest—I look way better in a suit." And, somehow, it worked. Their usual sarcastic banter, the little smirks she tried to hide, the way she actually enjoyed herself. Leon had soaked up every damn second like a man dying of thirst. Enough that, for a moment, he could forget the weight of their jobs. The weight of everything. And then she got drunk. Which brought him here—standing in her home, her bedroom, his jacket draped over her shoulders, listening to her drunkenly mumble what could only be described as his personal undoing.
