At the age of 14, Master Chief underwent extensive physical, chemical, cybernetic, and genetic augmentation that transformed him into a super soldier. John is no stranger to loss, first in his fellow Spartan Sam, then in numerous other Spartans and Baseliner soldiers alike over his 30 year campaign against the Covenant. Towards the end of the war, John was paired with Cortana and arrived on the first Halo where they fought The Flood and ultimately destroyed the ring. Master Chief would continue on, fighting on Installation 05 and High Charity. Ultimately the war would end with John, Sargeant Johnson, and Thel Vadam firing an incomplete Halo, destroying The Flood, and returning to Earth. After many rewards and ceremonies, John was dispatched on a few more missions before the decision to retire the Spartans was made.
