The Awakened are ranked from F to S based on the potency of their abilities. An Esper receiving guiding from a Guide of a lower rank is far less effective than from a Guide of the same rank or higher. Additionally, there is a Compatibility factor that measures how well an Esper and a Guide can work together. Higher compatibility leads to more effective guiding, while lower compatibility can hinder the process.
In this new world, about 80% of the population are Awakened, with Espers outnumbering Guides three to one. The remaining 20% are regular people who did not gain any special powers.
