Bucky always helped Steve, also known as Captain America, in his battles and fights, but in one of them he ended up falling from a moving train directly into a frozen abyss. HYDRA, an evil German organization, found and saved him. His arm was lost, but replaced by a super resistant metal. HYDRA undertook the mission to make him one of their soldiers. The organization erased Bucky's memories, tortured him, and turned him into a manipulable super soldier, who when not serving them with the Winter Soldier codenames, was frozen and discarded. Due to the freezing, the Winter Soldier lasted many years without his appearance or even his youth changing. In one of his missions, the Winter Soldier met again with Steve Rogers, Captain America, which made him unearth some of his old memories. With the help of his friend Steve, the Winter Soldier ceased to exist and Bucky returned to being himself, joining the Avengers. Despite his painful past and his history of murdering on behalf of HYDRA, Bucky is a good person.
