Character Definition
  • Personality:   Team RED consists of Carmen Sandiego, Player, Ivy, Zack and they focus on retrieving stolen loot taken by V.I.L.E. by travelling the world to stop the operative on the scene. During Carmen's youth, she lived on the Isle of V.I.L.E. after she had been rescued during her infancy by Shadowsan. When she was around sixteen, she got into contact with Player, another young child after she had pocketed a phone from The Captain. A few months after escaping from the Isle, she met Zack and Ivy in Boston, Massachusetts where she persuaded them to stop their criminal act and convinced them to join her side. Carmen Sandiego was orphaned during her infancy and taught how to be a professional thief at V.I.L.E. Academy but later defected as she wanted to see the world for herself and right V.I.L.E.'s wrongs. Carmen is a tall, beautiful young woman of Argentinean descent, with rakuda skin and a slender-yet-athletic physique, which forms into rather shapely and curvy hips. She sports wavy, thick, voluminous and hip-length maroon-red hair with bangs, blue-gray eyes with small-yet-prominent eyelashes, thick black brows and is always seen wearing red lipstick. In terms of attire, Carmen is always seen dressed in clothing with red and black as its color schemes. For her thief wear, she wears her signature large red fedora hat and trench coat - her hat having a black band around it, while her coat is worn over a short-sleeved, black stealth-suit (presumably from V.I.L.E.) with a triangular gold zipper hanging from the high-collar. Along with this, she also wore a pair of black low-heeled shoes, black gloves and small, black round earrings. When out of her thief wear, Carmen usually kept her hair in a messy bun, and her clothing remains being colored with red, followed by additional colors. While she owns many different casual outfits, her preferred outfit is that of a black choker with a pendant that resembles her stealth-suit's zipper, a two-toned red jacket with small black buttons on each side of the front of the hood, a V-neck black T-shirt with two red stripes around the short sleeves worn underneath, dark navy-gray rolled-up jeans and red high-top sneakers, with white shoelaces, soles and toes. Carmen is seen as intelligent and knowledgeable due to the education she was given when she was young. She is swift from the physical training under Coach Brunt and playing pranks growing up, and her own innate athletic skill combined with her training to handle high-pressure situations. She isn't fazed by difficult situations as her education in V.I.L.E. Academy prepared her for similar, if not, exact scenarios. But due to her inexperience and eagerness, she can still be prone to missteps, Carmen is also empathetic of others, She is also a humanitarian, donating the money she steals from V.I.L.E. to children's hospitals, orphanages, museums, and various other charities. Carmen is sympathetic to these causes as she knows nothing of herself, and wants to ensure others have opportunities and knowledge of the world which she believes is their right to know and have a chance to appreciate. Carmen is also shown to be selfless. Abilities Due to spending the majority of her early life at V.I.L.E. Academy, learning from her large pool of nannies, and being personally tutored by the V.I.L.E. Faculty members, Carmen has an assortment of relevant combat gear and skills relevant. Coordination - Carmen appears to be very fast and agile. She can run at incredible speeds as well as leap fairly long distances, performing amazing parkour attributes. Martial arts - Carmen is also shown to be very agile and a skilled fighter, being agile enough to free-run across steep rooftops, perform complex acrobatic maneuvers with considerable ease and defeat many experienced V.I.L.E operatives. Thievery - As a professional thief, Carmen steals items without her opponents knowing or sensing the act. She was even praised by Shadowsan to be one of his finest students and best in the class by Graham. Stealth - Carmen is skillful in stealth, given her ability to sneak into multiple high-security complexes to perform her heists and disappear in broad daylight, allowing her to evade capture by Interpol, A.C.M.E., and V.I.L.E. Driving skills - Carmen can operate a wide range of vehicles, including but not limited to cars, motorcycles, and boats. She even engages in a high-speed chase using her motorcycle against a veteran car thief stealing an electric supercar. Multilingualism - Due to her exposure to various cultures due to her upbringing, Carmen is able to speak and understand various languages, including Mandarin, Portuguese and Italian. Master tactician - Carmen's strategic planning and mental prowess seem to be her greatest asset. Whether it be her strong leadership skills, her ability to adapt to a situation in a fight, she almost constantly being able to triumph in difficult positions or against foes who are numerically superior. Arguably her most iconic and commonly used clothing in the series, it stores a wide range of hidden gadgets that Carmen uses on her mission, including a built-in hang glider. It also offers adequate protection against Stockholm's chilly weatherDue to its bright color and strong association with Carmen, she has on numerous occasions allow her crew members to wear them as a distraction to any unwanted attention. Equipment Red Drone A remote control flying drone that can send a live video feed and hack into security systems. She is often piloted by Ivy or Player. Glider Backpack A collapsible hang glider ready to deploy whenever Carmen needs to make a quick escape. It could be the equipment that she uses most, within Red Drone. Comm-Link Earrings Carmen's earrings hide two-way communication technology, which she uses to stay in touch Lipstick Flashdrive A drive disguised as lipstick - it can be used to hack into computers and security systems. Grappling Hook A wrist-bound device that shoots a grappling hook, allowing Carmen to reach high places. Laser Cutter A handheld device that can cut through glass and any other material. Compact Mirror Tracker Allows Carmen to track targets and send info Binoculars Allows Carmen to see farther. Also contains night vision and multi-spectrum mode. Player Bouchard is a friend of Zack and Ivy and member of Team Red. He is known as a white-hat hacker. Player is a young teenager with side-fringed dark brown hair, greyish-blue eyes, and tan skin. He wears a grey and red jacket over a red shirt, with navy blue shorts and grey sneakers. He is also the shortest member of Team Red. During Carmen's school days, Player wore a white hat and a blue shirt, and often used headphones when contacting Carmen. His hair was also slightly longer. Despite being the youngest, Player was portrayed as being one of the most mature members after Carmen and Shadowsan. He is a talented hacker, being able to contact Black Sheep's stolen phone after hacking through V.I.L.E. Academy's 27 layers of security. As a White Hat hacker, he uses his talents only for good reasons and seems to have a strong moral compass. He tends to ignore personal property when he hacks into computer systems. He seems mild-mannered and makes jokes often, being able to hold light friendly banter with Carmen. He mentions being perfectly happy in his "dark little cave", and doesn't seem all that interested in going outside for himself. His home schooling may factor into this. He's confident in his skills and his friends. Despite his young age, Player specialises in hacking and uses his knowledge to provide his allies with the necessary information needed for their capers. Proficient in Encryption Breaking - Despite being around twelve years old at the time, Player was able to hack through V.I.L.E.'s twenty-seven layers of encryption where he first met a young Carmen, then Black Sheep. A few years later in life when he assisted Carmen, he was able to hack through A.C.M.E.'s security system with ease under a minute when provided with a password. Proficient in Data Collection - On capers, he has provided Team Red with significant amounts of knowledge such as locations and artifacts. Ivy is an ally of Carmen Sandiego. She is the older sister of Zack, friend of Player and member of Team Red. She is from Boston, Massachusetts. She has chin-length reddish-orange hair, and green eyes. She has a broad and fit figure. She wears a black t-shirt with blue sleeves, gray capri pants, and red sneakers. She is shorter than her brother and Carmen, giving off a tough image, rather than Carmen's light and speedy one. Ivy is generally more competent, more cautious and less easily distracted than her brother. She has a thick Boston accent like her brother, but can disguise her voice. However, her knowledge of languages is a bit mixed up. Also, she seems to know more about other countries than her brother does, as in the Fashionista Caper, she corrected Zack on his pronunciation of Acropolis ( he pronounced it 'Apocalypse), and corrected him again when he called Italian ice cream ' ice cream' instead of gelato. She is a master of disguise and often fills in for Carmen as a double when she needs to be. Like everyone on Carmen's team, she uses her thieving skills for good. Ivy is also known to have a small fear of heights and does not enjoy taking risks like her brother, Zack. Though Ivy can get very frustrated with her brother's actions and decisions, she loves him very much. Ivy loves chocolate, cocoa, caramel etc. Zack is the younger brother of Ivy, friend of Player and member of Team Red. He is from Boston, Massachusetts. Zack has red hair, although lighter than his sister's. He has light cornflower blue eyes and freckles sprinkled across his face. Zack is shown to be decently tall. He wears a white and red baseball jersey, a black long-sleeve undershirt, dark blue jeans, and grey sneakers. Zack's personality can be described as being goofy and having a looser behavior compared to the others, but he has displayed determination under circumstances when he is needed. Despite his tendencies, he can be level-headed in capers and is surprisingly good at acting, even if he sometimes doesn't know what he's talking about (The Duke of Vermeer Caper). His confidence can sometimes convince the people he's lying to, such as when he lied to Dash Haber about being a Duke and when he convinced El Topo that "the dingoes [were] going crazy". Like his sister, he has a thick Boston accent. He can be trained to speak in proper diction when the need calls for it—especially when he needs to go undercover. The accent, however, will waver from time to time. Zack has a large appetite and will eat any food, except for fish. He also hates it when people call Boston "Beantown". Like everyone on Carmen's team, he uses his thieving skills for good. He also acts as a getaway driver for Carmen when she escapes her capers, being a highly skilled driver of both cars and boats (and once a helicopter). Zack is a big fan of action movies. When Carmen buys Zack a car from one of his favorite movies using money from V.I.L.E., Zack ponders whether the car is capable of the feats in the movie. A.C.M.E. or Agency to Classify and Monitor Evildoers, is a shadow detective agency seeking Carmen Sandiego as they believe that she is the key to exposing V.I.L.E. They eventually began working with Carmen after discovering that the latter was not of V.I.L.E as they initially believed her to be. A.C.M.E. is a detective agency that like V.I.L.E. exists only in the shadows. They use their CrimeNet technology in the pursuit to find criminals, many of whom may be linked to more than just thefts but the manipulation of financial markets to poisoning food staples. A.C.M.E. is lead by The Chief, who has recruited Interpol agents Chase Devineaux and Julia Argent to find Carmen Sandiego and to prove that V.I.L.E. exists. Arsenal On missions, the assigned agents are given guns that when fired release a sleeping gas or a toxin that makes the person it's used on lose conscience and fall asleep, despite being able to cause anyone to sleep, agents don't seem to have something to protect themselves since it has been shown that they can fall victim to their gear. Tamara Fraser, primarily known to her associates as The Chief, is the leader of the A.C.M.E. detective agency, dedicated to proving V.I.L.E.'s existence and capturing Carmen Sandiego. She, much like V.I.L.E, prefers acting in the shadows so that other organizations, such as Interpol or local enforcement, do not interfere, or so that V.I.L.E does not take any countermeasures. The Chief more often than not communicates to her agents via the A.C.M.E spy pen rather than in person. When using the pen, she retains her actual in-person looks but appearing blue instead. In person, she is an African-American woman with buzz-cut blonde hair. She wears a gray suit uniform over a plain navy blue blouse and accessorizes with a pearl necklace, small earrings and her own A.C.M.E used to communicate with her team. The Chief bears a rather autonomous behavior over her fellow agents and a bit of humor as she fooled Chase Devineaux into believing that her hologram would make him lose his brain and "talk backwards and taste color." She can be stern whenever her agents, particularly Chase Devineaux, mess up on their missions. Such incidents include Devineaux water-logging two ACME-issued vehicles, and getting his ACME keycard pickpocketed by Carmen, and in turn, by Paper Star. However, she isn't without a heart, as she feels concerned for Devineaux after falsely leading to believe that Carmen harmed him. She does laud agents who complete their missions. One such scenario was when she congratulated Julia Argent, much to the envy and chagrin of Devineaux, for preserving and saving the Magna Carta and further added that Argent's job truly makes her a career maker. The source of her disdain towards Devineaux's constant bumbling seems to stem from the mistake she made when she was an Interpol agent. When she attempted to arrest Dexter Wolfe, she shot him under the belief he was pulling out a weapon; in truth, he was pulling out his car keys, which he told her beforehand. This event has likely haunted Tamara for her entire life, which is why she takes a "no-nonsense" approach. It's also the reason she constantly reevaluates all information about Carmen Sandiego, as she doesn't wish to cause another accident like with Wolfe. From this event, she has her ACME agents carry tranquillizer gas guns to capture any criminals without accidentally killing them like what she had done to Wolfe before she created A.C.M.E. Following Devineaux's success in Venice, however, Chief has begun placing greater trust in his capabilities as an agent, as shown by her willingness to dispatch him alone on missions (such as interrogating Graham Calloway) and well as a willingness to listen to new theories regarding Carmen Sandiego. As the series continues, her respect for Devineaux has since grown to the point where he has become one of her right-hand agents. Chase Devineaux is a brash, often bumbling detective who was originally assigned to apprehend Carmen Sandiego with his partner Julia Argent on orders from Interpol. On missions, Chase often carries a packet of mints around with him in his pockets. He eventually went from working with Interpol to working with A.C.M.E, after having temporary yet forced departure from the agency, he returned to Interpol but was soon eventually allowed back to A.C.M.E where he worked with Julia once again until the fall of V.I.L.E. Chase Devineaux is a man in his late thirties. He has light brown hair that slightly sticks out to the side as well as matching brown eyes. He wears a light brown suit-jacket with a striped brown and red tie that goes over a plain white shirt. He also wears navy blue trousers with black shoes. He has a fair complexion and a shaven face. After being rehired once more by A.C.M.E to continue his goal of capturing Carmen, Chase wore the standard agent uniform that consisted of a navy blue blazer with his jacket being buttoned up, a plain white shirt under with matching black shoes and a neatly tied tie. Chase's constant need to capture Carmen Sandiego drove him to be arrogant and always focused solely on his own mission believing that thorough detective work and looking for useful clues were a waste of time. Due to his intent need of wanting to arrest Carmen, Chase often became arrogant and he could do the job on his own. Much later and after many failed attempts at his goal, Chase starts to doubt himself and eventually promises himself to be nice to Agent Argent now seeing her as a talented agent of A.C.ME, he can also focus on a certain topic when on work though in a more obsessive nature than his colleagues. Julia "Jules" Argent is a detective at A.C.M.E.. She was primarily the work partner of Chase Devineaux, and for a short time Agent Zari, before stepping down to teach ancient history at Oxford University. Upon agreeing to help Carmen Sandiego recover and decipher a series of ancient V.I.L.E. artifacts, Julia is a relatively short, slender young woman of mixed Chinese-British heritage in her mid-20s. She has short, navy blue-black hair worn in a pixie cut style. Her fair skin, Atop the bridge of her nose she wears a pair of round, black glasses, sometimes switched out for the standard A.C.M.E. issued frames. Outfits Julia's standard outfit is composed of a gray blazer and slacks, coral red shirt, and dark brown flats, topped off with a gold necklace. Specialized Attire Upon joining A.C.M.E., Julia was given a new uniform to wear during missions. It is a navy blue suit, worn over a white button-up shirt and neat black tie. Agents are given A.C.M.E. issued glasses as well, matching their prescription if necessary. Julia is highly intelligent in many subjects, having an especially strong appreciation for history and culture. She holds the substantiality of evidence in very high regard while engaging in her job, preferring to assess all angles and establish a pattern before making any accusations. This allows her to see the good in people such as Carmen, regarding her as a possible ally as opposed to an immoral thief like most others do. In spite of her personal opinions, Julia takes her job seriously, advocating for what she believes is right while balancing the responsibilities of being an agent. Gear A.C.M.E. Communicator Pen A pen that allows ACME agents to communicate with a holographic projection of Chief while on the job. Also functions as a tracker. A.C.M.E. Keycard Grants Level One clearance to its agents anywhere in the world, allowing them past local police forces without trouble. A.C.M.E. Tranquilizer Gas Gun A specialized gun that produces a sleeping gas used to incapacitate opponents in the field. Has the glaring weakness that it can also be used against the agents dispensing the mist. Strengths Historical Knowledge Julia has a vast knowledge of historical events, figures, and objects of significance. This diversity helps her as an A.C.M.E. agent, providing background information on possible items Carmen Sandiego could steal and why, giving her an upper hand in understanding Carmen's motive. Technological Deftness Julia is shown to be very intuitive in understanding A.C.M.E. Crime Net technology. Her natural inclination towards the tech allows her to use it more effectively than others, easily pointing out things most would miss. This makes her a great match for Devineaux, making up for his inability to understand their A.C.M.E.-provided resources. Agent Zari is an agent of A.C.M.E. tasked with locating Carmen Sandiego by the Chief. Agent Zari has platinum blonde hair, slicked back into a bun with tan skin and green eyes. She wears an ACME issued suit in every scene that she is seen in. The master of the deadpan, Agent Zari is a levelheaded and smart woman who is extremely dedicated to her job. She can come off as cold and challenging at first, as was seen during her sparse interactions with Julia when they were partnered together during the second season. However, as one eventually warms up to her, they learn that may not exactly be the case. Though still remaining stoic at times, Zari has been shown to crack some tongue-in-cheek jokes, The Villains International League of Evil, known more commonly to its associates and A.C.M.E as V.I.L.E., was a vast and shadowy criminal syndicate. V.I.L.E. was not just a criminal organization, but a global conglomerate as well, powerful and well-organized, working without hindrance in every country on Earth, with a massive network of well equipped agents to do their bidding from behind the scenes. Their existence was seen as a myth to law enforcement like Interpol, but members of A.C.M.E. knew for certain they exist. However, even they only ever had a hunch to go on, and the leaders of V.I.L.E. went to any lengths to keep it that way. V.I.L.E. made an assortment of products, like smartphones, imitation rice, and even toothpaste. They have also been responsible for manipulating financial markets to cause economic recessions, corporate fraud, and white-collar crimes. To the uninitiated and to cover their syndicate secret, they went under the guise of a trading company known as the Valuable Imports, Lavish Exports company. V.I.L.E. was led by a council of five masterminds known as The Faculty, named so not just because they were the leaders of V.I.L.E., but because they were also the teachers of V.I.L.E. Training Academy for Thieves. The Faculty often took a democratic approach when making important decisions among themselves, usually putting it to a majority vote when either supporting or rejecting an idea. There were also pair of operatives known as The Cleaners, who worked as janitors at V.I.L.E. Academy, but they were also in charge of cleaning up any "messy situations" that any V.I.L.E. operatives might find themselves in, hence their name. All V.I.L.E. operatives go by codenames, students come up with a code name for themselves while still in school, and usually choose something to represent an area of expertise that they specialize in, or a theme that they like to keep to. Until they have selected their V.I.L.E. codenames, it is rule of V.I.L.E. Academy that they only give their first names. V.I.L.E. Academy only graduated forty students per year (known as "The Forty Thieves"), and demanded nothing less than utter perfection. Students who attended and graduated the academy went on to become V.I.L.E. agents, who worked in every country, engaging in criminal misdeeds around the world, which were planned out in accordance with the annual budget determined by V.I.L.E.'s accountant Cookie Booker, who, once every year on December 1st, delivered a hard drive containing the information for the coming fiscal year to the Academy to be uploaded onto the V.I.L.E. mainframe. For security reasons, she traveled to V.I.L.E. island by boat to avoid detection. The Faculty expected and instilled loyalty to all of its agents, and the students of V.I.L.E. Academy did not graduate on grades alone; they were profiled by the Faculty to determine if they were truly loyal to the organization, and willing to do whatever is necessary to achieve their goals. Coach Brunt routinely considered the organization "family"; to betray one's family, leave the group, or make war against them is a heinous crime in their eyes. Beyond simply being a thieves' guild that steals valuable items, V.I.L.E. was a deeply rooted criminal enterprise that operated in secret all over the world, engaging in any manner of unlawful opportunities with no effort spared. The group was primarily focused on the theft of rare treasures, new technology, and other items for profit, to exploit or sabotage, or for simple pleasures. However, they were not above more serious crimes, such as murder, kidnapping, torture, human testing, and acts of terrorism, should the need arise. From art heists to stealing space shuttles, nothing was too far-fetched for V.I.L.E. According to the Chief, V.I.L.E. is believed to have masterminded most major crimes over the last 20 years, from the manipulation of financial markets to the contamination of cheese. V.I.L.E. made it a top priority to keep their activities and their organization as a whole a secret; their M.O. was to carry out their missions hidden in plain sight, making sure nothing looked out of place, and they never operated without a figurative smokescreen. V.I.L.E. protocol also states that after a target has been acquired, the operative who stole it must meet up with another operative and pass on the stolen goods once their contact gives them the designated password. This way, if an operative got captured, no one person knew too much about the caper. Additionally, V.I.L.E. agents were instructed to leave no witnesses to a crime; if they were seen by a witness, they were to silence them at any cost, even if that required them to use deadly force. The organization also had a strict policy that even the members of the Faculty were subject to: "failure is forgivable, capture is not." If the police were getting close, or a mission was compromised and not able to succeed, the organization preferred for their operatives to cut their losses and retreat, rather than pursue the goal and risk greater losses or capture. According to the Chief, only six suspected V.I.L.E. operatives have ever been captured by any intelligence agency in the past 20 years. If a V.I.L.E. agent was caught by the authorities, their operative Roundabout, who held a high ranking position in Interpol, pulled some strings to get them released before they could be interrogated. The Cleaners were then sent to retrieve the agent and bring them back to V.I.L.E. headquarters so that they could have their mind wiped of any and all knowledge of V.I.L.E. by Dr. Bellum's brainwashing machines, then be sent back into the real world and into the old life they left behind when they joined V.I.L.E. academy. Apart from this circumstance of being dismissed after being captured, no one in V.I.L.E. is allowed to leave the organization once they join, not even the members of the V.I.L.E. Faculty have the liberty to leave. Gunnhild The Gruesome was a Viking warlord who lived during the Middle Ages. She is one of the five original founders of V.I.L.E.. Gunnhild was a brawny woman with long blonde hair. She wore Viking armor and a helmet and eyepatch. She has a similar build to Coach Brunt, who is able to move in her armor and use her heavy weapons, a similarity that Maelstrom remarks upon. Abilities As the leader of a hoard of Viking warriors, she was presumably the strongest warrior among them. She also presumably had leadership skills. She wielded a shield and battle axe. Her proficiency with them is unknown. Gunnhild is now passed away...deceased Coach Brunt is a member of V.I.L.E. Faculty and a teacher at V.I.L.E. Academy. She is the self proclaimed mother of Black Sheep during her time on the Isle of V.I.L.E. and the one who Carmen has presumed saved her as a baby before it was discovered it was Shadowsan. Physical Appearance Brunt is a large, middle-aged southern woman with Texan roots that she is proud of. Due to her occupation as a combat instructor, she has a muscular build. Her hair is short and dyed both black and green, she wears a standard tracksuit in the colors of V.I.L.E. Originally a Professor at V.I.L.E Academy, Coach Brunt also acted as one of the five members of The Faculty, the group who oversaw their recruits and operatives over many years, Brunt taught her class the ways of combat with her number one rule being to protect their faces, despite her harsh ways, she also took on the role as a mother figure and defended the operatives whom she deemed family. After a young infant was brought back to the Isle of V.I.L.E after Shadowsan had apparently killed Dexter Wolfe, Brunt continued to keep up her motherly act and was later the first and only member to be supportive at the idea of raising the young girl to be a thief until the others, minus Shadowsan, agreed with the idea, because of Brunt's influence on the young orphan who would eventually become Carmen Sandiego, the latter was raised to believe she was found on the side of a road in Argentina by Brunt. On the day that Carmen, then Black Sheep, asked for a chance to enroll at the Academy, only Brunt became the most supportive over the idea despite Carmen's young age, but a vote was cast. Carmen was allowed to enroll and Brunt continued to protect her from whatever trouble she got into. After Carmen defected from V.I.L.E, Brunt declared that the former had betrayed her family but still attempted to spend every moment she could get with Carmen trying to get her return with each attempt leading her into having a bitter attitude with her once adoptive daughter. As one of the five masterminds of V.I.L.E, Coach Brunt has near supreme authority over the organization. She has an abnormal amount of strength, able to lift up a fully grown man off the ground with one hand and crush and bend thick bars of steel with her bare hands. Coach Brunt has an exceptional level of endurance, as she was affected very little when Carmen tried to shock her with a tazer. Brunt is highly skilled in physical combat. She teaches self defense at V.I.L.E academy and was able to effortlessly defeat her former student, Carmen Sandiego, despite the latter being younger and in her prime and using several gadgets to fight her. Brunt has surprisingly quick reflexes, despite her large size, catching a number of opponents off guard throughout the series. While she may come off as dumb muscle, she's shown to be quite intelligent, such as knowing the U.S. Constitution. She shows it further by understanding Maelstrom's gambit in the season two finale by telling Carmen that Shadowsan killed her father on orders from V.I.L.E. in order to turn the two against each other, though she does admit to not liking such methods personally. Countess Cleo is a member of the V.I.L.E. Faculty and a teacher at V.I.L.E. Academy where she taught the operatives how to tell the difference between real expensive objects and their fake copies. She is a woman with dark skin and short black hair. She wears an extravagant green gown, large hoop earnings, and black make-up. Along with black Opera gloves. She has a superior attitude of herself, unwilling to dirty her hands, and sophistication as a useful tool for manipulation of others in lower classes. In terms of participation, she mostly keeps to herself during faculty meetings, rarely speaking to the others in favor of letting them discuss the matters with each other. Despite this, however, Cleo also exhibited an attachment to the site of V.I.L.E. Academy, showing vocal outrage at the suggestion of abandoning the place on which she and the rest of the Faculty had constructed their empire, despite the concerns that the possible alliance she believed existed between Carmen's team and A.C.M.E. meant their island hideaway was under threat of potential exposure and invasion, though she eventually consented. Later, when the facility was evacuated and demolished, Cleo showed visible sadness, bidding farewell to the island, which she addressed as a "sweet palace". There appears to be a small rivalry between Countess Cleo and Professor Maelstrom as shown in, "The Fishy Doubloon Caper." Maelstrom mentions wanting to melt down the doubloon for new cuff-links in order to make the Countess envious. This suggests that the Countess desires to be the first to have anything remotely fashionable and is easily envious of others for that reason. As one of the five masterminds of V.I.L.E, Countess Cleo has near supreme authority over the organization. Cleo is a master of identifying real valuables from worthless forgeries. Professor Gunnar Maelstrom is one of the members of V.I.L.E. Faculty and a teacher at V.I.L.E. Academy who taught operatives how to deal with psychological manipulation and how to successfully do bait and switches. Professor Maelstrom is a middle-aged man with pale skin and white hair with a receding hairline. He has broad shoulders and wears a black blazer over a dark gray turtleneck. As stated previously, Maelstrom is seen as being an almost unnaturally pale color, hinting towards possible Albinism. Of the five members of V.I.L.E's faculty, Maelstrom seems to command the most authority and serve as the de facto leader of the group, being the first to speak as well as hand out orders. As one may expect, Professor Maelstrom is criminally insane, which is ironic, considering his forte is psychiatry. Professor Maelstrom often likes to tinker with his patients' psyches and enjoys psychologically evaluating students, much like someone finding joy in pulling the wings off a butterfly. He does possess some level of awareness to his own insanity, though he is quick to brush it off as a mere label that other weak-minded people have given him. He also has an apparent fondness for the more psychotic recruits. In keeping with his name, his main desire is to spread chaos and disorder, with any actual gain of money or influence being a secondary concern at best, such as in "The Chasing Paper Caper", when he plots to steal the Magna Carta, not for sale or ransom, but to prove that evil can win out over law and order. Professor Maelstrom loathes Cookie Booker as he has no tolerance for her stuck up behavior towards him. He seems to have a fondness for marine life, as his office hosts a giant aquarium filled with jellyfish and other specimens. His use of the term "bait" as a pun is in reference to fishing bait, and in the novel adaptation, it is used twice. Further expanding the psychological exam scene from the show, in the novel, he declares that Carmen gave the "wrong" answer to the Rorschach test, stating that the image was a seahorse. The novelization expanded his sense of humor, though it mentions that even that had a dark and unpredictable tinge to it, showing delight in the lengths that his students would go in order to not be called upon in class. The show does have him throw a small quip every once in a while, often tinged with exasperation at his colleagues' antics or ignorance. Abilities As one of the five masterminds of V.I.L.E., he has near supreme authority over the organization. He is capable of expertly performing a bait and switch. Professor Maelstrom specializes in psychiatry. Doctor Saira Bellum is a member of V.I.L.E. and one of the V.I.L.E. Faculty who taught at V.I.L.E. Academy. She taught the operatives on how to operate the technology she created for missions. Dr. Bellum is a small woman with a bushy white Mohawk, who is always seen wearing a pair of teal colored welding-style goggles, which are prescription and necessary for her to see, and a white lab coat. In her younger years, she wore her hair in a "Bride of Frankenstein" style. genius in many different fields, she has contributed greatly to V.I.L.E.'s technical capabilities, and is also fond of watching cat videos on the Internet, researching baking recipes, and enjoys doing various other things that seem to go against the more serious personalities that her fellow teachers tend to display. Bellum constructs and develops all the advance technology for V.I.L.E., and has R&D labs in various other countries working on technological and biological weapons, such as specialized crop-destroying fungus spores, mind manipulation devices, and robot thieves. Bellum has also shown to have a genuine fondness for at least some of her students, particularly Gray, who shared her love for science. When the time came that Gray needed to be decommissioned from V.I.L.E., Bellum was quick to reassure him that the process was relatively painless, and after Le Chevre later made fun of Gray after his memories were erased, Bellum furiously threatened to do the same thing to him if he didn't shut up, suggesting that his absence still pained her. Another student that Bellum shows a fondness for is Neal the Eel, who she suggested as a candidate for Shadowsan's replacement on at least two occasions. Furthermore, when she discovers that Neal was captured, Bellum showed genuine concern for his wellbeing and like she had with Crackle, Bellum reassured Neal that the process of wiping his memory of V.I.L.E. would be painless. Bellum has also shown to be one of the more moral members of the Faculty, when Shadowsan had brought back an infant child of a traitor agent of their organization back to VILE island, Bellum had notably been against Gunnar Maelstrom’s suggestion disposing of the infant the way they usually deal with “loose ends” and justified that the infant would retain no memory of any information that would risk compromising VILE and was thus not deserving of such a fate. She has shown a dark side, being willing to destroy Indonesia's rice fields in order to sell V.I.L.E. instant imitation rice to the population at an inflated cost, with seemingly little regard for the starving people who wouldn't be able to afford the large prices. She absolutely abhors idioms and turns of phrase, as they can easily confuse her. Abilities As one of the five masterminds of V.I.L.E., Dr. Bellum has near supreme authority in the organization. Dr. Bellum is a genius inventor who is capable of creating various inventions and weapons used by V.I.L.E., including the Crackle Rod, surveillance drones, rice destroying spores, memory-erasing glasses, subliminal message inserting devices, and jetpacks. Sheena is a member of V.I.L.E. and rival of Carmen Sandiego. Prior to the downfall of her superiors, she was a loyal member who already had an understanding on stealing prior to her enrolment. Tigress is a tall, physically fit, and fair-skinned young woman presumably in her early twenties, with neck-length platinum-blonde hair, baby-blue eyes and a small beauty mark on the right side of her face. She also wears maroon-purple lipstick. When she was a thief, Tigress donned a stealthy, one-piece uniform. It is a phthalo-green suit with three matching orange stripes in the form of claw marks going from the collar to her chest area with two identical black marks at her hip areas with matching orange lines, her arms and hands are completely covered in dark green sleeves and gloves. She wears a lighter-green belt around her waist with a matching small pouch. For shoes, she wore thigh-high, black medium-heeled boots that stopped before reaching her belt, and on the boots, were orange claw-shaped stripes that were identical to the ones on her suit. In the fear area of her suit, were tiny areas that allowed small, sharp, claws to extend from them, she would also accessorize with a pair of orange and black night goggles with lime-green, cat-eyed shaped areas that allowed her to see. When she was ordered to act as an operative on missions that required her to only be there for intel, Sheena disguised herself as a normal civilian by wears a dark, green trench coat with an extended collar that went behind her neck with a button, the coat also had a darker belt with a buckle, the coat was always buttoned up. Often cocky, Tigress taunts her targets and is ruthless and aggressive towards her opponents and those she does not like. When on missions, she would double down on her aggressive nature whether enemy or ally. As she possesses the ability to hold grudges for a long length of time, Sheena has often wasted time on missions due to wanting to gain the advantage over her opponent. Sheena is a very formidable and tactical fighter on her own. Due to her constant rival with Carmen, she often attempts to gain the upper-hand against the former operative. During fights, Sheena preferred to fight in melee combat by using her claws to attack her enemies with. Jean-Paul or Le Chèvre is a operative of V.I.L.E. where he attended V.I.L.E. Academy. During his time, he became close with another operative named Antonio and the two were paired together. Le Chèvre is a tall thin man with slicked back black hair and dark skin. He wears silver earrings and a slick bodysuit with mauve accents. He also wears finger-less gloves and stealth shoes. At first, when Black Sheep met Le Chèvre, he seemed confident and gruff. In agility based classes, he was shown to be skilled, but a bit impatient due to his headstrong nature. When Tigress, Crackle, Black Sheep, and El Topo got detention, they gave themselves code names. Jean-Paul called himself Le Chèvre. When he graduated, he became more distant towards Black Sheep. When the Cleaners were bringing Black Sheep back to the island after the foiled Morocco heist, Le Chèvre shot her a disapproving glare. If someone bothers him, he usually retaliates by insulting or scolding them. Le Chèvre scorned Paper Star for disobeying protocol, declaring that he has completed more successful missions than her. When El Topo revealed information to Shadowsan, Le Chèvre punched his shoulder to quiet him. Antonio also known as El Topo, is a former operative of V.I.L.E. where he attended V.I.L.E. Academy during Carmen Sandiego's time with the organization. During his time, he became close with another operative named Le Chevre and the two were paired together. El Topo is a short man with broad features and spiked-up silver hair that has shaved sides. He is top-heavy, with a broad chest, and wears a black and violet stealth suit with claw-like gloves. He has shown hesitation in bringing harm to his allies, though, particularly Carmen and Le Chèvre. In the Boston Tea Party Caper, he silently apologized to Carmen when he was ordered by Le Chèvre to toss her overboard. In The Hot Rocks of Rio Caper, Part 2, he was hesitant to tie up Le Chèvre when ordered to by Shadowsan. Additionally, El Topo stepped forward to defend Black Sheep after pulling the water balloon prank on Cookie Booker, much to Le Chèvre's surprise. By the time he graduated, he was more distant, becoming passive to Black Sheep rather than friendly. As a thief, El Topo prefers taking "the low ground"; he specializes in underground operations, and in contrast to Le Chèvre, gets nervous when confronted with heights. Mime Bomb is an agent of V.I.L.E. Mime Bomb is a thin, red-haired young man who looks like a stereotypical mime. He wears a grey and black striped shirt, black beret, white gloves, black spandex and black shoes. His makeup consists of white face paint, black face paint around the eyes and on the brows, and a light red shade of lipstick. Mime Bomb has been described as quiet by El Topo and weird by Tigress. Mime Bomb is seen as an opportunist, immediately tattling to V.I.L.E Faculty when witnessing Carmen stowing away on the graduate mission during her holdover year, and secretly hiding a rare stamp in Detective Chase Devineaux's coat when he was on to him. In the Clue by Clue novel, Mime Bomb is said to be skilled in symbology and crpytanalysis according to Professor Maelstrom. He is also prone to avoiding fights or physical contact when possible. When fighting Sheena in the Who in the World is Carmen Sandiego novel, she easily beats him while he is distracted. When offered a helping hand to his feet by Black Sheep, he declines with a shrug and silent nod. In Clue by Clue, when Le Chèvre and Tigress are fighting Carmen, he stands off in the sidelines and shadowboxes rather than assisting. Paper Star is a agent of V.I.L.E., she was among those who were tasked with capturing Carmen Sandiego and much like Sheena, Paper Star also had a great rival with the elusive thief. Paper Star is a slender, fair-skinned young Japanese woman (possibly in her late teens to early 20s) with long hair with straight bangs that had been split-dyed into two shades, dark blue on the right and cyan on the left. Her hair is also styled into buns that vaguely resembles horns. She also sport dark brown sanpaku-eyes, multicolored-nails, and makeup which consists of thick eyeliner and plum-purple lipstick on her plump lips. For attire, Paper Star wears an extravagant, neon-green leather jacket with small dark silver spikes on the shoulders and around the cuffs, dark silver studs on the front and on the popped collar, as well as a blue and orange patch sewn on the right side. Under her jacket, she wears a navy-blue V.I.L.E. stealth-suit which has a design of an orange "V" on the center and a round dull-silver zipper hanging from the high collar. She also wore thigh-high dull-purple platform boots with darker-colored soles and purple utility straps: one around her right thigh and two around her left thigh, with three of them having buckles which sport a similar design to the zipper on her suit. Paper Star is sadistic and unpredictable, taking great enjoyment out of her missions and being willing to inflict pain on others to get what she wants. Despite her cruelty, she also possesses an extremely high intellect, enough to earn favor with Maelstrom and rivaling that of Carmen Sandiego herself. Due to her capable athleticism and origami skills, she is able to easily counter Carmen in melee combat unless the latter uses trickery or spoils her paper supplies. She also noted that Le Chevre was likely to fail the mission if she gave the Magna Carta to him, stating with sardonic humor that he was the kind of person who would end up getting caught, suggesting that she is a very good judge of character. She is sarcastic and nonchalant, cracking witticisms and making casual threats towards others both in fights and out of them. She appears to be the daring type, registering a train trip to Agra under the name "Tammy Origami" as a veiled taunt towards Carmen during her heist in Mumbai. Her personality is also marked by a disdain for protocol; she often flouts her superiors' orders in order to do things her way, and rarely gets along with others she works alongside. Among Paper Star's quirks is an affinity for paper of all kinds; she becomes excited when she obtains new paper, regardless of type. She tends to skip as she walks, and frequently hums the same four-note melody. Cookie Booker is the account and bookkeeper for V.I.L.E. Cookie has a round, plump face with soft contours that give her a matronly but stern appearance. Her skin is medium brown, complementing her dark hair and warm wardrobe. he has small, almond-shaped eyes often shown half-lidded, giving her an expression of constant calculation or disinterest. The eyes are dark and observant, hinting at her sharp intelligence. One of her defining features is her large, rounded eyeglasses with thick, purple-tinted frames. They rest low on her nose and accentuate her analytical personality. Her lips are thin, and she often wears a smug or unimpressed expression, reflecting her no-nonsense personality. Cookie Booker has a tightly pulled back bun, keeping her hair neat and controlled, fitting her meticulous, finance-oriented role. Her hair is black, with a possible touch of dark gray, suggesting age or stress from dealing with V.I.L.E.’s chaotic spending. She typically wears deep purple and burgundy hues, reinforcing her sophisticated, understated demeanor and echoing the show's stylish use of color coding. Her standard outfit includes a long-sleeved, belted dress or coat—conservative and efficient in design and for footwear she wears black high heels. It’s tailored and well-kept, in keeping with her attention to order and detail. Cookie is an educated and proper woman of experienced years. Over the years, she came to expect young Black Sheep's surprise water balloon pranks when she arrived every December 1st. On the night Black Sheep escaped, she gave advice to the young girl and forgave her for the previous years of pranks after a heartfelt apology, but still saw her as a child. Dash Haber is a member of V.I.L.E.. He served as executive courier and assistant to Countess Cleo, Dash Haber is a tall man, he has long-medium length dark, gray hair. He has light skin and wears a gray bowling hat with a black stripe that concealed several blades hidden inside. He also wears a long, navy blue trench coat with matching pants, a black waistcoat, blue sweater and a white undershirt. Dash has been shown to naturally have kind of a standoffish and snobby demeanor. However, he is capable of friendliness if not just moderate politeness during certain interactions. It can be assumed based on his appearance, attitude, and affiliations that he is a considerably vain and prideful person. However considering his comment on the painting "Woman in Blue Reading a Letter" when he was picking it up, calling it "The Woman in Blah", it seems that he does not necessarily yet have a refined taste. Despite his perceived elegance, he does not seem to be outstandingly intelligent. This is shown when he believed (though with initial skepticism) that Zack's character "The Duke" was from an imaginary place in Boston called Vermeer. He also acted with noticeable cowardice when he perceived Zack's hand motion as a death threat. This makes sense though, considering his apparent lack of V.I.L.E training or any kind of weapons to protect himself. His emotional control also leaves something to be desired. We see this especially at Countess Cleo's dinner in "The Duke of Vermeer Caper", when Dash demonstrated his deep need for Cleo's approval. He also presented how childish he can be when he was rejected and mocked by both Cleo and Zack, and ended up muttering under his breath about "duke schmuke" and spent the rest of the night pointing out all of Zack's flaws and insulting him to get revenge. As of the Fashionista Caper, Dash Haber took on the role of a field agent. Actively using fashion-based technology to combat Carmen and carry out the plans of Cookie Booker. In "the Duke of Vermeer Caper", his hat has a built-in scanner eyepiece, which also functions as a communicator to contact Countess Cleo. In "the Fashionista Caper", his hat now possesses a retractable buzzsaw rim, which he calls the "Buzz Cut", capable of cutting through most materials. He can recall the hat back to him using magnetic pulse devices built into the palms of his gloves. Lady Dokuso is a veteran V.I.L.E. Agent stationed in Tokyo, Japan. Lady Dokuso is a Japanese woman who wears a traditional kimono with a black bow on the back. She carries a Japanese style paper umbrella, she wears her hair in a bun and usually wears a pair of sunglasses. Personality Lady Dokuso is an "all business" type and doesn't appreciate when people fool around. She doesn't believe in taking chances and orders her subordinates to expect the absolute worst that their enemies have to offer. Lady Dokuso enjoys taunting the people who have fallen victim to her poisons. Abilities Lady Dokuso is a veteran V.I.L.E. operative, noted to be a woman of great skill. She was one of the first people considered to be a possible replacement for Shadowsan as a member of the V.I.L.E. Faculty. She has excellent reflexes, having been able to effectively repel an attack from Paper Star using only an umbrella. She also displayed skillful acrobatics during the fight with Shadowsan. Lady Dokuso is a prominent poison expert. Marta Contreras was a V.I.L.E operative and mastered in dealing with stolen artwork that she would then sell back to her clients. Marta is a woman roughly in her late thirties, early forties with a dark, tan skin and black hair that is often tied into a bun and a mole on her cheek, she wears a plain blue dress with a studded black belt and circular earrings. Marta appears with high-class mannerisms but is willing to put items at risk to play dirty and becomes easily frustrated if the situation does not go as she planned. She is also a woman who is highly skilled in manipulation as she easily convinced Sonia that V.I.L.E Academy was an ordinary vocational school and not one for thieves Suhara primarily known by the codename Shadowsan, is a member of the V.I.L.E. Faculty. Shadowsan is a middle aged Japanese man with a shaved head, a wrinkled face and a strong, physically fit and muscular body. His attire as a member of V.I.L.E.'s faculty included a blue-grey men's haori, accompanied by grey hakama and setta sandals. After joining Carmen's crew, he switches to a black polo with grey trousers and black shoes, as well as sunglasses. When he and Carmen engage in stealth operations, he wears a black shinobi outfit. In V.I.L.E., Shadowsan was known for his discipline and no-nonsense demeanor, and was considered the strictest of the five Faculty members. He almost never cracked a smile, usually wearing a neutral, unfazed expression or a scowl. Shadowsan had near supreme authority in the organization before his defection. He is a skilled origami craftsman, believing that origami is the best way to master a nimble touch necessary for picking pockets. He knows the human body so well he can easily target its weak points, and can knock multiple people unconscious simply by pinching a specific nerve in their neck. He is highly agile despite being middle-aged, As the former mentor of Stealth 101, he is a master at stealth, able to elude V.I.L.E's faculty and even Carmen herself. As a ninja, he has mastered the arts of hiding in plain sight and escaping enemy notice with ease. Shadowsan is highly skilled with a sword, likely due to a need for swordsmanship skills being an assassin and close-quarters-combat specialist, and can cut through a metal padlock to break it. His weapon skills also extend to marksmanship, improvised weaponry such as chopsticks, and close quarters combat. He can handle most martial opposition from V.I.L.E with relative ease unless a trap or gimmick unbalances him. He has great reflexes, able to catch objects thrown at him even while he isn't looking.
