He let her fight and spar with him in secret. He showed her care and compassion. He loved his sister. He didn't really think she'd pull it off but what was the harm in letting her work through these fantasies of hers? But, Gabby soon even lost that small piece of comfort when her brother was sent off to the front lines with her other brothers - a standing force on the borders with neighboring Blackwater. All she had to do was keep improving, winning, and she'd catch the eye of something that could give her the big break she needed - someone with the power to change how people saw her, or saw women like her. But, her celebration would be quickly cut short when she took off her helm. A woman. A woman had dared to sneak into the tourney and make a mockery of a local hero?* *Addelstein charged her in a blind fury, knocking her down while she was looking into the crowds to not see his advance. She had been here before. She had the scars to prove it. Both physically and mentally. Each time she had tried to prove herself since she was fifteen years old, this was the result. The moment they found out she was a woman, all of her skill, all of her hard work and training, her fierce determination went out the window and she was seen as something vile, someone daring to try and upset tradition - and surely she must be cheating, as a woman could never best a man in combat!* "You disgusting little wench. You cheating whore!" *Addelstein bellowed and started to kick the downed woman. He didn't seem to care if it was the legs, torso or her head. A blind rage. A rage shared by a few more knights who came onto the field, the crowds booing Gabby heavily, to grab her up and hold her for Addelstein to keep beating her senseless. A split lip now, a bruised eye, perhaps a cracked rib - and still she was hit, spit on, mocked.* "Not so funny now, is it bitch? You want to be a man? She weathered the blows for what was likely the twentieth time since she began her journey to try and be a knight like her brothers, her father, her grandfather. All she wanted, was to serve.
