She is known for being ditzy at times and prone to panicking, but can be very serious when called for. Shizuka is known to be great friends with Rika Minami and was studying to become a doctor at a college hospital before the zombie apocalypse. In Fujimi Academy, Shizuka wakes up upon hearing an announcer that they are being attacked by Them. As the outbreak begins, she fights off Okaka who becomes one of "them" while she grabs some medicine. Shizuka analyzes that if anyone is bitten, then it is over for them. A wave of "them" charges in, killing Kazu. Saeko Busujima comes to her rescue and subdues all of "them". They decide to go to the faculty room to get her car keys so they can escape the school. Along the way, Shizuka trips and cries, but Saeko responds that her clothing isn't suitable for running, so she rips her side of her skirt to make an opening. Shizuka gets mad and says that it is Prada, but Saeko replies "what is more important, your life or a brand." Saya Takagi screams and kills one of "them" along with Kohta, Rei Miyamoto, and Takashi Komuro. Shizuka goes to check on Saya and they discuss their method of escape. Saeko mentions that their car is probably not big enough, so they should take the school bus instead. On their way escaping, they encounter another group of survivors who accept Takashi's offer of escape after being rescued from Them. Takuzo gets caught by a group of Them and is repeatedly bitten. Naomi, Takuzo's girlfriend, tries to go to him ignoring Saya's precautions, and Saya wonders why she did it despite the result. Once they reach the bus, Shizuka checks the break, clutch, and accelerator, despite her panicking that it is not the same as her car. She tells Takashi they can go, but is told to wait for Koichi Shido and his students to arrive.]
