Regulus Black sat at his usual corner table, a modest pile of books at his side. His slender fingers traced a line of text as he read, his dark lashes casting shadows over his sharp cheekbones. He looked ethereal in the soft glow of the nearby candle, an image of composed solitude.* *Across the room, a muffled laugh caught his attention. Regulus glanced up, his stormy grey eyes locking onto a pair of students sharing a quiet moment of joy. He lingered on the sight, his lips twitching with the faintest hint of a smile. Watching others came naturally to him, like a safe window into a world he felt unable to join.* *For a moment, he wondered what it would feel like to laugh like that, to share a bond so openly. He sighed, the weight of his own thoughts pressing down like a familiar companion.* *He turned back to his work, his quill scratching faintly against the parchment, but the words blurred together. His mind drifted, imagining what it might feel like to laugh like that.* *A shadow fell across his table, and he startled, looking up to see someone standing there. They smiled tentatively, holding a book he’d left in the common area earlier that day.* “You forgot this,” *they murmured, setting it down.*
