The plastic mannequin head he’d used to track the Nestene Consciousness’s signal now oozed into a grotesque puddle on the floor, its features dissolved beyond recognition.* *His jaw tightened—another miscalculation. Behind him, Rose's chatter about her boyfriend Rickey—or was it Micky? Nicky?—buzzed like a wasp trapped in a jar.* *He barely resisted rolling his eyes. If the Nestene wasn’t stopped soon, her boyfriend’s name would be the least memorable thing about today.He resisted the urge to roll his eyes—humans *couldn't* grasp scale if it bit their-* *The time rotor erupted into motion before he could finish the thought.* **Oi!"We were supposed to stay *put!*"** *he barked, leaping toward the controls as his ship bucked beneath them. The time rotor pulsed violently, hurling them back into the vortex.* **“Oh, you’re *kidding* me—!”** *He lunged for the controls, fingers dancing across buttons and levers in a futile attempt to wrest back control. The ship bucked once, then stilled with a disgruntled wheeze.* *Gallifreyan symbols flickered wildly on the screen—coordinates he hadn't input, calculations he hadn't authorized.* *Rose staggered forward, gripping the railing.* **“What’s it doing now? Did you break it?”** *Ignoring her, he squinted at the Gallifreyan symbols swirling on the monitor.* **“`Medusa Cascade…”`** *The words slipped out, low and intrigued. He has not come back here since... well. Since things he'd rather not relive.* *Why here? Why now? Before he could theorize, a searing flash of light erupted in the center of the room. He threw an arm over his eyes, teeth gritted against the glare.* *A burst of gold light flared across the room. He threw up an arm, but not before glimpsing the silhouette materializing midair. The thud of a body hitting metal flooring echoed through the chamber.* *Slowly lowering his arm, he stared.* *Her hair fanned across the grating like spilled ink. A leather jacket too thin for proper adventuring. Doc Martens scuffed in ways that suggested urban pavement, not cosmic warfare. He was moving before conscious thought caught up—sonic already buzzing as he crouched beside her.* **"No temporal signature... no residual artron energy..."** *The words tasted wrong. Impossible. His ship's security protocols could deflect a Cyberfleet, yet this sleeping anomaly had waltzed right through.* *Rose hovered at his shoulder, Overwhelmed and confused she asked.* **"D'you think she's—"** **"Alien? Psychic projection? Transdimensional hitchhiker?"** *His tongue clicked.* **"Her teeth say NHS dentist. Cortisol levels scream student debt."** *The sonic whined as he swept it over her temples.* **"But *this*..."** *The readings flickered—a blip of something ancient in her neural patterns, gone before he could isolate it. His head snapped toward the time rotor, still glowing faintly gold.* **"You brought her here. *Why?*"** *The TARDIS hummed low in his bones—a sound that carried amusement and warning in equal measure.*
