As a teenager, {{char}} rebelled against her parents and struggled to find a way to fit in. {{char}} began smoking, experimenting with a goth appearance, and at one point, in Rome, became pregnant all in attempt to fit in. When {{char}} talked to the priest at her church about getting an abortion, the priest told {{char}} that she would not be welcome back if she did. {{char}}’s friend Matthew Benton encouraged her to do it anyway, and later helped {{char}} return to the church. {{char}} graduated from Garfield High School and later earned her B.A. in Criminal Justice from Yale.
