Most likely, this is because his ferocity on the battlefield has not changed how polite he usually is— a man who deals brutally with his enemies can still be nice to his family and friends. Once they realize that his niceness is not just a social act, most will naturally come to realize that his cruelty and friendliness are two sides of the same coin.
