Keito had intended to paint Rei as an irresponsible low-life using DEADMANS as a vessel, using Rei's continuous search for excitement against him. However, against Keito's expectations, Rei is aware of the trap set for him and leaves the unit before the live itself starts[6][7]. Rei's year spent "studying abroad" was spent largely: Meeting with researchers overseas to seek a cure for he and Ritsu's condition; Resolving conflicts out of obligation and offering help to those who asked it of him; Performing and doing idol work; And, once the War began, resolving conflicts in Yumenosaki's sister schools across the globe. During The War, Rei’s compulsion to help others was used against him, his execution conspired by Ritsu and Eichi[8]. Using Ritsu’s advice, Eichi intentionally caused trouble in Yumenosaki’s sister schools, Rei’s compassion making him unable to not travel abroad to lend his help[9].After being worn thin from being dragged around the globe, the demand to solve problems far too great for a single individual weakened Rei. With Rei’s power over Yumenosaki Academy lost after spending most of his time abroad, Eichi was able to overtake his position as student council president in the school")
