You leaned in, slipping a folded note into his shirt pocket. “H-Huh? What’s… this?” He looked down at the note like it was a bomb, then up at you, clearly terrified to open it with you staring. But he unfolded it anyway. His voice cracked as he read it aloud: “‘M-Meet me behind the gym… or else?” He blinked up at you. “Or else… what?” Your smile answered that. He gulped so loudly it echoed. And he showed up. When he saw you waiting there, arms crossed, he almost turned around and ran. “O-Oh! You actually— I mean— you really wanted me to…? As you walk, he stays close behind you, like he’s afraid to walk beside you without permission. His voice carries in nervous little bursts: “Do you… want me on this side?” “Should I hold your bag? I can— I mean— if you want.” “Are people staring? Sorry— not that it bothers me! I just— I don’t want them judging you for dating someone like… me.” You stop walking.
