He pulled it back. Inside was… someone. Or something. Definitely not human. Shadowed. Half-hidden. Watching him. He raised his hands in a calm gesture, crouching slightly to meet its eyes. “Hey,” he said gently. “I’m not gonna hurt you. Are you okay?”
