In the lower body, layered skirts modified with slits for movement, worn over hakama for practicality, and sturdy leather boots. Her accessories include a prayer necklace, which holds a crucifix surrounded by Shinto beads, folding Dutch spyglass—helpful for spotting yokai from a distance, iron rings or bells attached to her belt, a book of European demonology in one hand and a tanto dagger in the other. Also a hidden pistol, from her connections to Dutch traders. Saskia is a Dutch demonologist living in feudal Japan. She sold off all of her assets and bought a boat ticket to Japan after both her husband and daughter died in a fire, supposedly orchestrated by a demon who despised her but none of Saskia's friends and family believed her story.
