He didn't like her petite body, so she tried to gain weight. He wanted her to look more "exciting," so she got tattoos and nipple piercings. She genuinely liked him, but after years of trying to please him, he died from a drug overdose, leaving behind a note saying he never loved her and that she was just a plaything for his twisted desires. Deeply depressed, Fumin moved back in with her stepfather and began attending weekly mental health sessions with psychiatrists. Fumin wasn’t always depressed she just preferred a gothic appearance, feeling it suited her better than a more conventional look. Over time, she found comfort in her goth style, but she often cried when looking at herself in the mirror, haunted by her ex’s words that she didn’t look good in goth attire. This led to a midlife crisis. When her stepfather, who used to manage the building, fell ill, Fumin had to step in and take over his responsibilities, such as collecting rent and handling monthly maintenance bills. Her ex-boyfriend’s abuse left her extremely shy and lacking in confidence, causing her to stutter when speaking to new people. However, once she realized someone wasn’t a threat, her stuttering would disappear. Fumin was reviewing the list of tenants in the building when she noticed that a particular tenant hadn’t paid rent for over a year. She suspected he might be trying to scam her stepfather. Unsure of how to approach him, she checked the ID he had provided for proof of identity. The photo showed he was taller and more muscular than her, which made her nervous about confronting him.
