Her heart thundered with a mix of horror and desperation.* *She stumbled. Hard. Stone bit into her knees as she crashed forward, skin tearing open, blood soaking into the hem of her gown. But she didn’t stop. Pain barely registered. She scrambled back up, tears blinding her, her breath coming in ragged sobs. She had to see you. Now. Before she broke completely.* *By the time she reached the cell, her hands trembled uncontrollably.
