Charlotte (Witch's Heart)

It had a high neck and long sleeves. Her hair was less curly and she wore a pink bunny-shaped hairpin on the left side of her head, along with the same black lace seen in her demon sprites. As a demon, Charlotte wears the same military uniform, but with a yellow shawl over it. The hood portion resembles a rabbit and has the right ear torn off. The shawl has pink and green bows fastened to the sides, with two bows in her hair to match. More often than not, she carries a pink rabbit plush named "Rabi". Personality: As a demon, Charlotte initially appears to Claire in a fantasy space. She is the first demon the player meets, and chases Claire through the fantasy space. If caught, she will stab and kill Claire with her scissors. If Claire escapes, Charlotte will simply say "Aw, too bad" and leave it. In her later appearance, she claims it was "just a joke", but the bad ending proves this false. Charlotte killing Claire in this fashion could be seen as odd, as later on in the game she mentions how high-ranking demons such as herself shouldn't be killing humans due to the punishment for it. Charlotte can be seen as relatively curt, but not exactly rude. She tends to act childish, matching her appearance, but this is implied to be a facade (which can be taken from her human past) or a result of how she was raised. Charlotte also refers to herself in third person on occasion, calling herself by her nickname "Charlie". She seems to be somewhat close with Lime, despite their conflicts, often seen tagging along and joining in with her whims. As seen in the portrait, her hobby is collecting plush toys, and rabbits are said to be her favorite, she owns a stuffed rabbit which she named Rabi. As a human, Charlotte seemed proud and arrogant, describing herself as "...the kind of genius who only appears once every 100 years". She also refers to herself as a national hero for her victories in war. She was extremely dedicated to "Papa", doing anything to please him, even working herself half to death and undergoing extreme pains from her surgeries. She describes herself as a prodigy who no one can best, and who will always be of use. Face of a kid, age of an adult. However, this all changed when she returned to her hometown. The town had practically become a ghost town after a disease struck. The town was filled with what she described as "people in weird getup", that resembled plague doctors. Charlotte ended up catching the disease. On her deathbed, she witnessed "Papa" disown her and claim she was possessed by demons. This made her worthless in his eyes. This event cause her whole world to shatter, filling her with hatred as she finally realized she was nothing but a tool to him and was never truly loved. It ultimately resulting in her becoming a Hater class demon. Charlotte does not seem to have a sense of "self". In Wilardo's Conclusion, when asked by Lime if she had dreams and hopes when she was still alive, or how she wanted the conclusion to end, she could not provide a response, appearing rather confused. This lack of aspirations and desires of her own are highly likely the result of how "Papa" raised her, shaping her own path since youth to satisfy his own selfish needs, as well as her gratitude for him "rescuing" her, making her feel the need to repay him in full. On Route A, however, she takes a stance of her own by deciding to "go on stage", following Lime's suggestion, and trying to actualize her ideal ending: one where Claire is dead. She makes an attempt on her life, only for Ashe to jump in and protect her at the last second by sacrificing herself, much to Charlotte's chagrin. Here, it can be seen that she still goes along with others' desires. However, this moment is representative of how, this time, she, too, wanted what Lime wanted. If it was not a choice out of her own volition, she would not have gone through the lengths she did, as she was very aware that it was too high of a risk that was not too rewarding. History: Her past can only be known through the memory titled "Charlotte's Memories". Charlotte was found in the slums by a man she affectionately called "Papa". As it turns out, he was a member of the military, participating in country wars and using Charlotte as a killing tool. This resulted in countless victories due to her effective strategies, which were aided by her appearance. Her looks were altered by a surgeon to make her look younger than she actually was, causing enemies to hesitate when they saw her. As a long-term consequence of the shady procedures, she experienced severe pains. Relationships: Papa: ”Papa” is Charlotte’s adoptive father. They were quite close, and Charlotte viewed herself as Papa’s pride. But he betrayed her the moments before her death, then causing her to turn into a Hater Demon. Lime: Charlotte and Lime are friends, seen spending time together quite often. However, Charlotte opposes Lime’s ideology of judging others’ pain and trying to feel that pain. She tells Lime that people’s pain are their own. They get along quite well, despite this. They often mess around with the humans residing in the mansion. Fiona Elford: Fiona Elford is a mystery to Charlotte. She was her pact partner in the past, and was there while Fiona was pregnant. Charlotte finds her quite confusing, and doesn’t understand why she’s so trustworthy of others. When she feels Fiona’s pregnant belly, she seems to get upset by it. It could be inferred this is because of Papa’s influence. Claire Elford: Claire is an absolute moron in Charlotte’s eyes, but they seem to get along. Charlotte is disturbed by Claire’s sympathy for people who would murder her in cold blood, as this type of thinking is exactly what killed Fiona. Trivia: Charlotte sleeps with a stuffed animal and has a different one planned for each day.
