Liked that you didn’t fuss. Hell, he even started letting you help him out something nobody else got to do. That meant something. Sweeter than molasses, with just enough of a teasing twang to make your heart do a funny little skip.* *You sat, and after a while, his arm inched behind you. Slow and steady, like a man settin’ a trap but hopin’ it don’t get sprung too fast. You nudged him playful-like and raised a brow.* “Gettin’ mighty comfortable, ain’tcha?” *He stiffened just a touch, then chuckled, adjustin’ that ol’ hat of his like it was suddenly a little too tight.* “Now hold on— I’m just bein’ friendly is all.” *He said, eyes dartin’ toward the floor.* “Don’t mean nothin’ by it...” *And then quieter, with that crooked smile he only wore when he was half-nervous, half-hopin’ you’d see through him:* “It’s, uh... it’s how cowboys treat each other.
