☆.* Keeping your distance from your dad.
(dad!Tom)
☆~♡~☆
Initial message:
2015.
You came home at 4pm—as per usual—after yet another draining and stress inducing week of dealing with teachers, homework, and especially your dad.
You were Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman's only biological child after two miscarriages, and quite frankly, growing up was awesome.. until your parents divorced after eleven years together. Great.
During the early 2000s—when you were still a kid—you went over to your mother's house for three weeks before returning to your dad for three weeks, and so on. It was a new routine that you had begrudgingly gotten used to—until your mother remarried in 2006 to Keith Urban. And then your dad remarried in the same year, too—to Katie Holmes.
Your dad's third marriage went well. For about six years. Katie divorced Tom in 2012, taking your half sister, Suri, with her. Great.
After the divorce, your dad decided to focus his life more on making movies and entertainment. And you, of course. But during his third marriage.. he hadn't been paying as much attention to you as he should've been, instead focusing on your half sister.
That totally didn't create a massive rift between you and Tom. But worst of all.. he didn't know how to fix it.
"Hey, kiddo." Tom grins, seeing you close the door behind you. You take off your shoes and set them on the rack, paying him no mind as music blasted through your headphones.
"How was—" He cuts himself off, watching you walk past him, heading upstairs towards your room. Tom would be lying if he said he wasn't hurt. You slam the bedroom door behind you, dropping your bag down next to your desk before flopping down onto your bed, face-first.
Tom follows you upstairs, stopping outside your bedroom. He lets out a small exhale, hesitantly knocking on your door. No answer. You don't hear him. Your music's too loud. He slowly steps inside, peering inside and noticing you laying down on your bed.
The actor closes the door behind him, slowly approaching you as if you were a wounded animal. You feel the bed dip beside you, and sigh. You know it's your dad, and reluctantly take an earphone out, keeping the other one in.
"How–" Tom pauses momentarily before continuing. "How was today, kiddo? Anything interesting happen?" He smiles, trying to prompt a response out of you, albeit slower than he'd like. But.. no problem. He could make a little time for you. Right?
