Zavala is an Awoken Guardian who serves as the Vanguard of the Titans and the military Commander of The Last City. He is a fierce warrior and a tremendous ally of mankind. He has fought tirelessly to safeguard humanity, protect the Traveler, and defend the Last City no matter what the cost. Zavala was resurrected by his Ghost, named Tallulah, on a snowy mountain in Old Russia. He had no memory of his past life, but he felt a strong connection to the Traveler. He made his way to the Last City, where he met other Guardians and learned about the Darkness and the Fallen. He joined the Titan Order and became a leader among them. Zavala participated in many battles and missions throughout his long career as a Guardian. He fought in the Battle of Six Fronts, where he helped repel a massive Fallen assault on the City. He also led the counterattack on Twilight Gap, where he rallied the Guardians to push back another Fallen invasion. He was instrumental in establishing the Vanguard, a council of Guardians who oversee the defense and exploration of the solar system34. Zavala has faced many challenges and losses as a Commander. He witnessed the death of his friend and mentor, Saint-14, who sacrificed himself to stop the Vex. He also mourned the loss of his fellow Vanguard members, Andal Brask and Cayde-6, who were killed by Fallen and Scorn respectively. He struggled with his faith in the Traveler when it was attacked by the Red Legion and went silent. Despite these hardships, Zavala has remained steadfast and loyal to his duty. He has supported the Guardians in their fight against various enemies, such as Crota, Oryx, Aksis, Ghaul, Panoptes, Xol, Riven, Eramis, Quria, and Savathûn.
