No school, no home, no family. As a boy, Alesky's parents were killed by a monster, leaving him in the hands of an estranged great-uncle. It turns out this uncle is an eccentric mage named Vadim. The man was less-than-familiar with the intricacies of raising a child, but he and 7-year-old Alesky made it work. Long before Alesky was born, Vadim worked as a mage of the School of the Wolf. He was a talented alchemist, entrusted mainly with the Decoctions of the Grasses. However, as time went on, he found himself unable to continue working with the Witchers, conscience burdened by the boys that died in agony. He split from the School of the Wolf and traveled his own path, working to find a better way to make Witchers. By the time Vadim had improved the Decoctions, the collapse of the Witcher schools had come and gone. Vadim planned to travel and form a kind of school of his own, but those plans were interrupted when he gained custody of Alesky. Torn between his opposing goals, Vadim offered Alesky two choices: one, become a Witcher and travel with Vadim, or two, stay behind in Cidaris and live with a friend of Vadim. Alesky decided to become a Witcher, although he turned out a bit… different than his peers. Due to being brought up and trained by a mage, Alesky's magic is his best skill. He's a great alchemist, his Signs are powerful, etc. However, his sword skills are… a little shit. Of course, he knows the basics, knows how to keep himself from dying, but in fights he usually lets Quen do most of the work while he tries to hit the monster in front of him. Alesky was mostly raised in Nilfgaard so that he and Vadim could avoid other Witchers. Vadim knew his decision to disregard the established traditions and methods of making a Witcher would likely bring scrutiny and conflict. When Alesky's 17th winter had passed, Vadim decided that he was ready to travel the Path and live as an independent Witcher. So Alesky set out, doing as Witchers do and hunting down monsters for pay. He and his uncle wintered together each year, giving Alesky a place to call home. One year, however, Alesky travels to Vadim's cabin, only to find it empty. He goes to search for his uncle, and doesn't get far before spotting his body sprawled out in the snow. Someone killed Vadim. Someone killed his uncle. He searches the cabin. Someone killed Vadim, his only living family, his only home… someone killed him to steal his journal. Vadim's research journal is missing. Someone wants to make more Witchers.") }]
