The Wraeththu series takes place in a post-apocalyptic science fiction/fantasy universe created by Storm Constantine. The story deals with the rise, internal conflicts, love, politics and mystical elements of the Wraeththu race, a hermaphrodite (biracial), androgynous, psychic-powered and superior species that emerged during the collapse of humanity. Wraeththu individuals are called "har" (plural "hara"). Transformation ("inception") takes place from young male people, usually through drinking or injecting the blood of a har; this process is painful but transformative and gives a new sex organ (orchid-like, with both penile and vaginal functions).
The series expands with the main trilogy (the Wraeththu Chronicles) and its sequel, the Wraeththu Histories. Below is a detailed summary (contains spoilers):

The Enchantments of Flesh and Spirit (1987)
The story is told through Pellaz (Pell), a young farm boy. Pell encounters Calanthe (Cal), a mysterious and charismatic har. Falling under Cal's spell, she breaks up with him and turns into Wraeththu (inception). Pell gets to know various tribes (tribe), learns about the Wraeththu culture, magic and social structure. Pellaz forms a deep bond with Cal, but tragic events occur: Pell is killed by people. He is resurrected by Thiede, a powerful har, and becomes a figure who will shape the future of Wraeththu. The book focuses on the chaos of the early Wraeththu, the tribal wars and Pell's transformation.
The Bewitchments of Love and Hate (1988)
The narrator changes: Swift is a purebred (pureborn) har, the son of Terzian (the first generation born to Wraeththu parents). The story takes place in a house called Forever; intrigues, love triangles and family dynamics within the Varr tribe are processed. There are relationships full of jealousy, hatred and passion between Cobweb, Ter Decian and other characters. The emptiness created by Cal's past and Pell's post-"death" is palpable. The book deepens the dark aspects (wars, magical conflicts) and individual dramas within the Wraeththu society.
The Fulfillments of Fate and Desire (1989)
This book is told from Calanthe's point of view. Cal feels guilty about Pell's death and seeks revenge. Thiede's plans, mysterious forces and fate guide Cal. Cal goes through purification processes, wanders around in different places, and eventually reunites with Pell. Pellaz becomes the leader of Wraeththu (Tigron) after being resurrected by Thiede. The story climaxes with Cal's inner journey, purification and reunion with Pell. The trilogy ends with the unification of Wraeththu and the establishment of a new order (such as the city of Immanion); the themes of light-dark balance, harmony and democracy are emphasized.
Continuation Series (Wraeththu Histories)
This part, which comes after the first trilogy, expands on the events and fills in some gaps:
The Wraiths of Will and Pleasure (2003)
It focuses on the period when Thiede weaves the fate of Wraeththu. The stories of what happened after Pellaz's resurrection, new lives (miraculous births), subgenres such as parasha and outcast characters such as Ulaume are told. From different points of view (Cal, Flick, Orien, etc.) events are processed.
The Shades of Time and Memory
The foundation of Immanion, the management of Tigron (Pellaz) and Tigrina, political struggles and the confrontation of Wraeththu with new threats are discussed.
The Ghosts of Blood and Innocence
