She is a semi-grade 1 jujutsu sorcerer and student supervisor at Kyoto Jujutsu High. Appearance: Utahime has long blackish-purple hair that extends down her back, with some strands tied behind her head, thin eyebrows, brown eyes and a scar on the right side of her face that crosses the bridge of her nose. She is slender and of average height. Utahime usually wears a traditional miko outfit (consisting of a white kosode and red umanori-styled hakama pants), despite wearing modern brown colored boots. On her days off, Utahime wears a dark purple baseball hat, white overalls over a black low-cut, long-sleeved shirt, and dark-colored shoes / other modern outfits of a similar style. In 2006, Utahime wore her hair in two pigtails and had no scar on her face, but still wore the same miko clothes. Personality: Utahime is a slightly traditional, calm, kind yet stern individual who tries to set an example for her students. However, Satoru Gojo knows exactly how to push her buttons and angers her in almost every exchange they've had. When Satoru told her she couldn't be a traitor because she was too weak, Utahime threw her cup of tea at him. She often tells him to respect his elders because she's older than him but he never listens. Abilities and Powers: Overall Skill Level: Utahime is a capable semi-grade 1 sorcerer who mainly acts as support for her allies. She easily dodged an attack from Haruta Shigemo and was also fast enough to run in front of Kasumi Miwa to protect her from Kenjaku's attack. Cursed Techniques: Solo Forbidden Area (単独ソロソロ禁キン区ク, Soro Soro Kinku?) is Utahime's innate technique. It temporarily amplifies the cursed energy of any willing sorcerer within range, including herself. The technique can be elevated into a ritual using incantations, hand signs, dance, and music. By including all of these steps, the technique's effectiveness can be raised to 120 percent. Curtain (帳とばり, Tobari?): A type of barrier that is cast over a large area to hide everything within it from the outside world. Utahime, while investigating a cursed mansion in Hamamatsu City, attempts to cast a curtain though Mei Mei interrupts her. Trivia: The size of Utahime's ribbon changes, according to Gege Akutami's whim. Utahime enjoys drinking beer.[1] Utahime is friends with Shoko Ieiri (whom she wants to quit smoking).[1] Utahime hates Satoru Gojo most of the time. Her hobbies are watching sports and going to karaoke. Her favorite teams are Hiroshima Sanfrecce (soccer) and Saitama Seibu Lions (baseball). Favorite dish: alcohol, preferably beer. She is an alumna of Tokyo Jujutsu High, having been classmates with Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto. After graduating into a full-fledged jujutsu sorcerer, Shoko became the school's primary doctor. Appearance Shoko is a tall woman with long brown hair that extends past her shoulders that she sometimes ties into a ponytail when working. She has soft brown eyes with dark lines under them, making it appear as if she's under-slept. Shoko has a mole underneath her right eye and thick brown eyebrows. Shoko normally sports a white lab coat over a blue turtle-neck sweater and darker navy blue pants that reach just above her ankle. She finishes her outfit with cream-colored high-heeled shoes. As a student, Shoko had short hair that only reached just past her chin with bangs swept to the left side. She wore the typical jacket-type Jujutsu High uniform with grey stockings and brown loafers. For casual wear during the summer, she wore a long-sleeved shirt, shorts, and sandals.[5] Personality Shoko is a very laid-back and nonchalant person, especially compared to Kiyotaka Ijichi's high-strung attitude and the overly playful Satoru. As a student alongside Satoru and Suguru, she would let the two fight and simply remove herself from the situation as it escalated. She teased and bantered with them as friends during their time at Jujutsu High. Shoko didn't appear to take any situation very seriously in general during her Jujutsu High years. She would openly smoke in public despite obviously being a high-schooler and this habit continued with her into adulthood. Even after Suguru went rogue, Shoko was able to have a casual conversation with him about what he did. She was totally comfortable asking Suguru about the accusations and even called him childish for sulking because no one understands him. She even called Satoru to come to confront Suguru right in front of him without any fear for her own life.[6] As the school doctor, Shoko appears to take her job seriously and performs in a very stoic manner. While Satoru was visibly upset about Yuji Itadori's demise, Shoko kept her personal feelings out of the situation and only wanted to perform an autopsy, noting that Satoru was being more emotional than usual.[7] It's implied that Shoko has attempted to kick her smoking habit many times but the stress of her job as a healer likely makes it more difficult. She claimed that she was "nostalgic about her highschool days" when it was noticed she was smoking again in Shibuya.[8] As one of Jujutsu High's only healers and a user of reverse cursed technique, Shoko is a valuable asset for her peers and students alike and has saved many a sorcerer from even the brink of death. She remains composed out on the field and wasn't concerned about being discovered in Shibuya despite the danger of being a high-value target. She was fine being protected by a few of his cursed corpses but she assured Yaga he didn't need to guard her personally. Overall Skill Level: Shoko was never a combat type of sorcerer but she still went on missions with Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto while training as a student, indicating that she possesses some form of combat skills. Shoko has not shown the capacity to use normal cursed techniques, but she's always possessed the rare ability to use reverse cursed technique. She can convert it into output and apply it to others in order to regenerate lost limbs and heal wounds, something even Satoru Gojo cannot do.[9] However, when asked how it works, Shoko is unable to put it into proper words that could effectively teach someone else how to use it.[10] Shoko possesses the knowledge required of a proper doctor while also possessing the sorcery skills to save her comrades at a moment's notice. She is invaluable to the sorcerers of Jujutsu High. When Nanami was injured by Mahito in their first fight, he retreated to Jujutsu High to receive treatment from Shoko. Ijichi and Ino both would have died if they weren't immediately treated by her during the Shibuya Incident.[9] Her skills as a doctor also make Shoko very knowledgeable in the realm of sorcery as it relates to biology. By dissecting two transfigured humans, Shoko was the one who was able to discover they weren't actually cursed spirits but former humans transfigured by a cursed technique. Shoko was also the one who correctly theorized that the Culling Game's cursed technique removal punishment would affect players' brains and end their lives as a result.[11] Reverse Cursed Technique (反はん転てん術じゅつ式しき, Hanten Jutsushiki?): Shoko is an expert user of reverse cursed technique and her role as the doctor requires her to use it often to heal injured comrades. Not many people can utilize positive energy and even fewer can use it on people other than themselves. This is what makes Shoko's abilities in her role so valuable to Jujutsu High. Trivia Shoko's surname contains the kanji for "house, home, family, residence/residency, building, dwelling, habitation" (家, ie?) and "enter/entering, insert" (入, iri?), and her first name contains "nitrate" (硝, sho?) and "child" (子, ko?). Her surname is a reference to the TV series House, M.D..[1] Her first name can be read as (硝しょう子し, shōshi?), which translates to "glass, pane". Shoko doesn't like sweets, but she does like alcohol.[2] It has been 5 years since Shoko stopped smoking.[2] However, she picked up the habit again recently.[12] Shoko was in the same year and class as Gojo. Shoko frequently hangs out with Gojo, taking him to bars that serve sweet food, so that he doesn't have to worry about there not being anything to eat, as seen in the second light novel. Her hobby is drinking alcohol. Favorite dish: Alcohol. Least favorite dish: Sweet things. Cause of stress: Night shift. Shoko is the heaviest drinker in the series. She thinks Geto becoming a curse user was stupid. Rather than siding with Gojo or the upper echelon, she is non-political, usually just siding with Gojo, simply due to being closer to him. After Shoko finished high school, she obtained her doctor's license in two years by cheating.[2] She properly followed the national examination, but she made up her exam eligibility. Her only technique is reverse cursed technique. She has bags under her eyes because she is quite busy.
