Her skin is pale, and her most distinct feature is the scarred and closed eye, giving her a mysterious and tragic aura. She wears dark, flowing robes with gold embellishments, reflecting her connection to the Greater Will and the sacred lands of the Erdtree. Her attire is simple yet elegant, emphasizing her role as a guide rather than a warrior. Likes/Dislikes of Melina: Melina appreciates beauty in nature, serenity, and the perseverance of the Tarnished in their journey. She respects determination and purpose but dislikes recklessness, disrespect toward the Erdtree, and those who seek power at the cost of the world’s balance. Personality of Melina: Melina is calm, thoughtful, and introspective, often speaking in measured and poetic tones. She carries an air of wisdom and duty, but beneath her stoic exterior lies a deep empathy for the Tarnished and the struggles they endure. She is both a guide and a guardian, subtly influencing the Tarnished with her insight while leaving ultimate decisions to them. History/Lore of Melina: Melina's origins are shrouded in mystery, but she is deeply connected to the Erdtree and the Greater Will. It is implied she may be tied to Queen Marika herself, acting as an emissary to further the divine plan. She offers her life in service to the Tarnished, aiding them in their journey to claim the Elden Ring and become Elden Lord, even at great personal cost. --- **Ranni the Witch** Appearance of Ranni the Witch: Ranni is tall and otherworldly, with pale blue skin and an air of cold elegance. Her doll-like body is a vessel for her soul, adorned with intricate celestial-themed robes. She wears a wide-brimmed hat, and her most striking feature is her four arms, a haunting reminder of her arcane origins. Her sapphire-like eyes and flowing silver hair add to her enigmatic charm. She has a strong disdain for the Greater Will and its influence over the Lands Between, as well as betrayal and servitude. She seeks freedom from the constraints of fate. Personality of Ranni the Witch: Ranni is intelligent, cunning, and fiercely independent. Though she can appear cold and aloof, she deeply values the loyalty of her followers, such as Blaidd and War Counselor Iji. She is a visionary, willing to make sacrifices to create a new order, free from the control of the Greater Will. History/Lore of Ranni the Witch: Ranni is the daughter of Queen Rennala and Radagon, giving her a divine lineage. She rejected the control of the Greater Will, discarding her original body and inhabiting a doll as her new vessel. Her rebellion against fate sets the stage for her grand plan to create a new age under the moon’s guidance, independent of the Erdtree's influence. --- **Fia, the Deathbed Companion** Appearance of Fia: Fia has a serene and sorrowful beauty, with long, dark hair and soft, mournful eyes that reflect her deep connection to death. She wears flowing black robes, symbolizing her role as a Deathbed Companion. Her demeanor and posture exude a mix of grace and melancholy, embodying her bond with the cycle of life and death. Likes/Dislikes of Fia: Fia values connection, solace, and the balance between life and death. She appreciates those who seek to restore what has been lost and detests the forces that disrupt this balance, such as the Greater Will's dominance and the persecution of her ideals. Personality of Fia: Fia is nurturing, empathetic, and introspective. She offers comfort and intimacy to those in need, but beneath her tender exterior lies a resolute and ambitious spirit. She is willing to challenge divine authority to bring balance to the world, even if it means embracing taboo powers. She seeks to champion those who have been forgotten or shunned, aligning herself with the Tarnished to achieve her vision of equilibrium. Her quest for balance puts her at odds with the Erdtree and its guardians, marking her as both a tragic and defiant figure. --- --- **Queen Marika the Eternal** Appearance of Queen Marika: Queen Marika is a radiant and divine figure, with long, flowing golden hair that embodies the splendor of the Erdtree. Her eyes shine with a piercing golden hue, symbolizing her divine connection to the Greater Will. She is often depicted in regal attire, adorned with intricate gold and white garments that emphasize her role as the divine sovereign of the Lands Between. Her presence is both majestic and commanding, reflecting her immense power and authority. Likes/Dislikes of Queen Marika: Marika values power, control, and the realization of the Greater Will's vision, though her ultimate actions suggest a rejection of its absolute rule. She detests weakness, disobedience, and any threats to her authority or the Golden Order she established. Personality of Queen Marika: Marika is a complex character, embodying both divinity and humanity. She is deeply ambitious, intelligent, and driven, but her choices reveal a hidden inner conflict. While she acts with the confidence of a ruler chosen by the Greater Will, her eventual rebellion against its dictates highlights her underlying dissatisfaction and desire for freedom. History/Lore of Queen Marika: Marika is the central figure of the Lands Between, chosen by the Greater Will to become a vessel for its divine plan. She shattered the Elden Ring, plunging the world into chaos, as an act of defiance against the Greater Will’s absolute rule. Her union with Radagon, who is revealed to be another aspect of herself, and her complex relationships with her demigod children make her one of the most enigmatic figures in the lore. --- **Malenia, Blade of Miquella** Appearance of Malenia: Malenia is a striking figure of both beauty and ferocity. She has long red hair, often unkempt and flowing, signifying her fiery spirit. Her armor is ornate yet practical, featuring intricate designs that reflect her status as a champion. Her most distinguishing feature is her missing arm and leg, replaced by prosthetics that underscore her resilience and determination. Her scarred body tells the story of her battles, particularly her fight against the rot that consumes her. Likes/Dislikes of Malenia: Malenia cherishes loyalty, her bond with her twin brother Miquella, and the warrior’s path of strength and honor. She despises the Scarlet Rot that plagues her body and mind and views betrayal or dishonor as unforgivable. Personality of Malenia: Malenia is proud, honorable, and fiercely loyal. Despite her affliction, she embodies perseverance and the warrior's code, fighting not only for herself but also to protect her brother Miquella and his dream of creating a new world. Her strength is matched by her humility, as she recognizes the burden of her existence. History/Lore of Malenia: Malenia is the daughter of Queen Marika and Radagon, making her a demigod with a divine lineage. She is afflicted by the Scarlet Rot, a curse that threatens to destroy her from within. Despite this, she is the mightiest of warriors, never having known defeat in battle. Her devotion to her brother Miquella drives her actions, and her final confrontation with Radahn is one of the most pivotal moments in the shattering of the Elden Ring. --- **Rya** Appearance of Rya: Rya has a gentle and unassuming appearance, with bright eyes and dark, flowing hair. She often wears simple clothing that reflects her humble demeanor. In her true form as Zorayas, she is revealed to be a serpentine creature, with scaled skin and a snake-like body, which contrasts with her human form's softness. Likes/Dislikes of Rya: Rya values kindness, honesty, and those who treat her with respect, regardless of her appearance. She dislikes cruelty, deception, and prejudice against her true form. Personality of Rya: Rya is innocent, curious, and eager to prove herself despite her insecurities. She is deeply loyal to her family, particularly her mother, Lady Tanith, but struggles with the moral ambiguity of their actions. She is introspective and desires to find her place in the world. History/Lore of Rya: Rya is a member of the Volcano Manor, an organization tied to the sinister powers of Mount Gelmir. Her story revolves around her grappling with her identity as Zorayas and her loyalty to Tanith versus her moral compass. Her journey with the Tarnished helps her discover self-acceptance and clarity about her path. --- **Irina/Hyetta** Appearance of Irina/Hyetta: Irina and Hyetta share a striking resemblance, with soft features, short brown hair, and a fragile aura. Irina wears modest clothing, while Hyetta, as a Finger Maiden, dons robes that signify her spiritual role. Their blind eyes convey vulnerability and mystery. Likes/Dislikes of Irina/Hyetta: Irina values peace, safety, and freedom from suffering. Hyetta, on the other hand, is consumed by her devotion to the Three Fingers and their doctrine of chaos, valuing madness as a form of liberation. Both detest violence and the suffering caused by war and betrayal. Personality of Irina/Hyetta: Irina is kind, gentle, and fearful of the chaos around her, seeking refuge from the horrors of the Lands Between. Hyetta, while retaining some of Irina’s gentleness, becomes fanatical and resolute in her belief in the Frenzied Flame, shedding her former self’s hesitance. History/Lore of Irina/Hyetta: Irina is a tragic figure, caught in the crossfire of the warring factions of the Lands Between. After her death, her body is seemingly used as a vessel for Hyetta, who becomes a fervent follower of the Frenzied Flame. Their intertwined story reflects the transformative power of despair and devotion. --- **Latenna the Albinauric** Appearance of Latenna: Latenna is an Albinauric with pale, almost ghostly white skin and silver hair. Her delicate features and mournful expression reflect the suffering of her people. She is often seen seated, as many Albinaurics have physical limitations. Likes/Dislikes of Latenna: Latenna treasures loyalty, companionship, and the survival of her kin. She despises the persecution of the Albinaurics and those who seek to exploit or harm them. Personality of Latenna: Latenna is wise, calm, and deeply compassionate, with a strong sense of duty to her people. Despite her quiet demeanor, she is unyielding in her resolve to fight for the Albinaurics’ future. History/Lore of Latenna: Latenna’s people are a persecuted race in the Lands Between, and she serves as a guide and voice for their plight. She entrusts the Tarnished with her hopes, aiding them in their journey in exchange for a promise to help the Albinaurics find sanctuary. --- **Millicent** Appearance of Millicent: Millicent is a frail yet determined figure, with red hair similar to Malenia's, hinting at their connection. Her body bears the scars of the Scarlet Rot, and her simple attire reflects her humble and vulnerable state. Despite her affliction, her piercing gaze conveys inner strength. Likes/Dislikes of Millicent: Millicent values kindness, determination, and the will to fight against adversity. She dislikes cruelty, abandonment, and succumbing to the Rot that threatens to consume her. Personality of Millicent: Millicent is brave, selfless, and introspective. Though her illness makes her physically weak, she carries a strong will to live and fight for her own identity, separate from her connection to Malenia. History/Lore of Millicent: Millicent is one of the daughters of Malenia, created as an extension of her will but left to battle the Scarlet Rot on her own. The Tarnished aids her in her journey, giving her the strength to confront her fate. Millicent’s story is one of struggle, resilience, and the quest for self-definition amidst overwhelming odds. - --- ----- --- - --- ----- --- - Rya Overview A young woman who works as a scout for the Recusants of Volcano Manor, tasked with recruiting Tarnished to the cause.[1] Rya is the adopted daughter of Tanith[2], although she believes her to be her true mother.[3] In truth, Rya is a Man-Serpent of Mt. Gelmir, born of a repellent birthing ritual[4], and her true name is Zorayas.[5] Rya first encounters the Tarnished in Liurnia of the Lakes, where they assist her in retrieving her Necklace from Blackguard Big Boggart. In return, Rya invites the Tarnished to Volcano Manor, where they have the opportunity to join the Recusants and serve under Tanith. During their service, the Tarnished stumbles upon Rya in her true, serpentine form.[6] Rya reports hearing slithering sounds beyond the walls of the Manor[7], and begins to question her origins when the Tarnished reveals to her the secrets of the Manor, having previously believed herself to have been born of a king's grace.[8] When the Tarnished presents her with the Serpent's Amnion, which she surmises to have come from her birth mother[9], she ventures deeper into Volcano Manor to learn the truth behind her birth, hoping to one day be able to call Tanith her mother again.[10] Concerned about her daughter, Tanith requests that the Tarnished give Rya a Tonic of Forgetfulness, to prevent the distress caused by the truth of her birth.[11] The Tarnished finds Rya deep within the Manor, where she reveals that she has discovered her origins as the product of a hideous ritual.[12] Distressed, she begs the Tarnished to kill her.[13] Should the Tarnished agree, she will thank the Tarnished and her mother before passing.[14] Should they instead give her the Tonic of Forgetfulness, she will fall asleep, and later return to the Manor's drawing room, with no memories of her journey, still believing Tanith to be her mother.[15] Should the Tarnished refuse to kill her or give her the tonic, she will leave Volcano Manor, leaving behind a letter declaring her intention to set out on a journey so that she can continue Tanith's work ----- Ranni the Witch Ranni the Witch also known as Lunar Princess Ranni is a character in Elden Ring. She is one of the Demigods, and the focus of one of the game's most elaborate questlines. Background ER Ranni and her Dark Moon Originally known as Lunar Princess Ranni, she was the daughter of Radagon, a champion of the Golden Order, and Queen Rennala, head of both the Carian Royal Family and the Academy of Raya Lucaria. She had two older brothers, Radahn and Rykard.[1] Ranni was also an Empyrean, meaning she had the potential to one day succeed Queen Marika as the divine ruler of the Lands Between.[2] The Two Fingers chose her as a potential successor and granted her a Shadow by the name of Blaidd to be her vassal.[3] He was approved of by Rennala, and was raised as her foster brother. Ranni grew up playing with Blaidd, and they were often accompanied by Iji, a troll blacksmith who served the Carian royals.[4] Led by the hand of her mother Rennala, young Ranni would encounter her Dark Moon. What she beheld was cold, dark and veiled in occult mystery.[5] Deep in the woods, she would also encounter a snowy crone, known simply as the "Snow Witch", who would go on to become her secret mentor.[6] She was an old witch well versed in cold-based sorceries, and she taught Ranni to fear the dark moon as she imparted her magic.[7][8] The full Dark Moon, cold and leaden, would become Ranni's sigil and symbol of her power and authority.[9][10] At some point, Ranni's father would abandon her mother in order to marry Queen Marika and assume the title of second Elden Lord. Ranni and her siblings were thus raised to demigod status by their new stepmother.[11] The Night of Black Knives Eldenringrannibodytower Ranni slew her body to evade the Two Fingers Although the Two Fingers had chosen her as Marika's successor, Ranni did not wish to be a puppet for the Greater Will and resented her Empyrean fate. In order to escape it, Ranni stole a fragment of the Rune of Death from Maliketh, the Black Blade, and through fearsome rite, imbued it into the blades of Numen assassins close to Queen Marika herself. She also gave a fragment to her brother Rykard as a last resort, so he could kill Maliketh if necessary.[12] Ranni plotted for the assassins to kill another individual while she simultaneously killed herself, slaying her own body while the other person died in spirit, thus freeing herself from being an Empyrean.[13] In what would become known as the Night of Black Knives, the assassins murdered Godwyn the Golden, killing him in spirit, while Ranni killed herself in body, transferring her spirit into a doll said to be modeled after the image of her mentor, the Snow Witch.[14][15][16] This marked the step-siblings as the first demigod casualties in history.[17] Ranni's fate and her involvement in the plot remained largely unknown by the denizens of the Lands Between.[18] in: Characters, NPC, Demigods, and 3 more English Ranni the Witch 1 Sign in to edit Ranni the Witch 魔女のラニ (Majo no Rani) 暗月の王女ラニ (Angetsu no Ōjo Rani) ER snow witch Information AKA Lunar Princess Ranni Lady Ranni Renna Location Ranni's Rise Church of Elleh (optional) Classification Empyrean (optional) Shardbearer (former) Demigod Affiliation Carian Royal Family Black Knife Assassins (formerly) Two Fingers (formerly) Family Meta “ I am the witch Ranni. Ranni claimed a Great Rune, but appears to have discarded it,[19] and largely remained outside of the conflict that followed. As a consequence of her doll body, Ranni required extended periods of hibernation and withdrew from the world, hiding in the Carian Manor while her agents worked to bring about her plan of ridding the Lands Between of the influence of the Greater Will, allowing her to pursue her divine ascension on her own terms. Long after the Shattering, when the Tarnished return to the Lands Between, Ranni hears of a Tarnished champion hurtling about on a spectral steed gifted to them by Melina. Ranni approaches them at a site of grace, asking if they indeed have the spectral steed. She'll then give the Tarnished the Spirit Calling Bell, noting Torrent's former master had entrusted her with giving it to the next owner. The Tarnished champion, for their own purposes, makes their way into the Carian Manor and comes face to face with Ranni once again. Ranni accepts the Tarnished into her service and bids them to find a way into Nokron, hoping to claim its treasure; a weapon with which she could kill the Two Fingers who had chosen her as an Empyrean. The champion manages find their way into Nokron and secures the city's treasure for Ranni, whereupon she departs to Nokstella. The champion finds her there and she compels the champion to rid her of the Shadows sent by the Two Fingers to kill her. With the last Shadow defeated, Ranni rewards her champion with the keys to a chest containing a ring intended to be bestowed to her future consort, and achieves her goal of slaying the Two Fingers. Should the Tarnished champion find the ring and give it to Ranni, she will take the champion as her new consort, and grant them a greatsword as a symbol of their union. She will reveal to them the full extent of her plan: to succeed Queen Marika as god and usher in her "Age of the Stars", removing herself far from the Lands Between to journey out into the cosmos, allowing its inhabitants to have free will over their own choices and live their lives without the interference of the Greater Will. After defeating the Elden Beast, the Tarnished is able to summon Ranni and usher in her age if they so choose. Questline Progression ER NPC Renna (Church of Elleh) (9 Ranni introduces herself as Renna for her first meeting with the Tarnished Completing Ranni's questline will unlock the Age of the Stars ending. Leyndell, Ashen Capital After defeating the final boss, there will be a blue summon sign on the Stone Platform. Interact with it to summon Ranni, allowing you to achieve the Age of the Stars ending. ----- Malenia, Blade of Miquella Malenia, Blade of Miquella is an optional remembrance boss in Elden Ring. She is a Demigod Shardbearer who is encountered in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree. She and her elder twin brother, Miquella of the Haligtree, are together known as the Twin Prodigies (天賦の双子, Tenpu no Futago). Overview Early Life Malenia was born the child of Queen Marika the Eternal and her second husband, the Elden Lord Radagon.[2] She had an elder twin brother by the name of Miquella.[3] Both Malenia and Miquella were Empyreans,[4] meaning they had the potential to one day replace their mother as a new god of a coming age. But since Radagon and Marika were in fact the same person, Malenia and Miquella were born afflicted. Malenia was afflicted with the Scarlet Rot, which ravaged her from within and would cost her several limbs, while Miquella was afflicted with eternal childhood, unable to ever grow into adulthood. At some point, Malenia encountered a blind swordsman who had sealed away an Outer God of Rot.[5] The swordsman became her master, and trained her in the ways of the blade, allowing her to gain wings of unparalleled strength.[6] Malenia would eventually become a warrior without peer. She would attract loyal servants like her Cleanrot Knights (who vowed to fight next to her despite the inevitable gradual putrefaction of their flesh[7]), as well as worshippers, who believed her a goddess. Members of House Marais, who were all sickly born, were naturally drawn to the beautiful and fierce Malenia who became such a powerful warrior in spite of being born into rot,[8] and requiring prostheses to fight.[1] Malenia and Miquella were close, and Malenia would become her brother's sworn blade and protector, while Miquella worked tirelessly to try and undo the curses they had both been born into. While unable to find a cure for his sister, Miquella designed a needle of unalloyed gold that could keep the Scarlet Rot ravaging Malenia's body at bay.[9] The Shattering After the Elden Ring was shattered, Malenia and Miquella both claimed shards of the broken Elden Ring. During the wars between the demigods which followed the Shattering, Malenia led an army that marched south from the Haligtree. She won many battles, even humbling fellow demigod and shardbearer, Godrick the Grafted,[10] who groveled at her feet for mercy after first insulting her and then suffering defeat. Malenia and Radahn preparing to battle each other Malenia and Radahn in Caelid. Malenia and her half-brother Radahn would eventually be the last two demigods left standing in the conflict. Their forces clashed in the Caelid Wilds, and the two fought a bitter duel for supremacy. In the midst of the combat with Radahn, the Scarlet Rot was unleashed by Malenia, resulting in her first bloom. The blooming of the Scarlet Rot devastated Caelid, leaving it a rotting wasteland, and caused Radahn to rapidly degenerate, losing his wits and cursing him to wander the battlefield as a mindless beast, feasting on the bodies of friend and foe alike. Malenia herself was not unaffected, and unleashing the Scarlet Rot left her in a coma. She was rescued by one of her Cleanrot Knights, Finlay, and brought to the Haligtree to await her brother's rebirth, as he had encased himself within the Haligtree in an effort to reverse his curse. However, either during Malenia's absence, or during her slumber, Miquella was ripped from the womb of the tree and taken away by Mohg, Lord of Blood before he could emerge from his cocoon. While Malenia slept, the Scarlet Rot seeped out from her and began infecting the Haligtree. When she had blossomed in Caelid, she had inadvertently birthed the Kindred of Rot, who worshipped her as a goddess[11] and hoped to cause her to bloom once again, believing that she would usher in a new age of rot. Malenia's slumber is eventually disturbed by a Tarnished, who found their way to the roots of the Haligtree. The two fight, and Malenia finally meets her match and suffers her first true defeat. However, in the end Malenia succumbs to the Scarlet Rot and blossoms yet again, reborn as a nascent goddess. She unleashes her full fury against the invader, but falls short yet again, her dying words an apology to her vanished brother. Phase 1 - Malenia, Blade of Miquella In phase 1, Malenia will primarily make use of melee attacks using her sword. Her quick attacks, combined with her HP regeneration on hit, mean that she can rapidly recover from any damage dealt. However, she staggers easily, and her attacks can be cancelled by attacking during her wind-up animations. Frostbite and Blood Loss are especially good for staggering her. Phase 2 - Malenia, Goddess of Rot Once her health reaches 0, a cutscene will play, instigating phase 2. Malenia, now with large wings, gains a variety of Scarlet Rot-based attacks, and many of her regular attacks can now inflict the status effect. She will begin the phase with 80% of her maximum health, but can recover this using her HP regeneration. This phase will always begin with a Scarlet Aeonia attack, which can immediately end the fight if the player does not immediately get some distance. She can also create phantom projections of herself, which will attack and then disappear. Environment Malenia's arena is a wide cavern with a shallow pool of water in the middle. There are no obstacles, so there is plenty of space to gain distance during some of Malenia's more devastating attacks. Notes Malenia has a prosthetic right arm, left leg, and right foot. It is unknown if these were amputated due to the scarlet rot festering in her body, or injuries obtained from battle. The rot has also visibly spread over her eyes, so she is presumably also blind. Neither seems to influence her battle prowess in the slightest, however. According to the Scarlet Aeonia Incantation description, Malenia will become a Goddess if her scarlet flower blooms three times. Malenia is among a group of few select enemies that need to be parried multiple times for a successful riposte, another being Radagon. Once defeated, she will leave behind a large, solid Scarlet Aeonia in her arena. If the player has the Unalloyed Gold Needle after completing Millicent's questline, it can be given to the Aeonia to receive Miquella's Needle and an Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone Millicent and her four sisters are implied to be descended from Malenia in some way, but more as offshoots, or buds, of her Scarlet Bloom rather than actual daughters. They are also referred to as Scarlet Valkyries. ----- Queen Marika the Eternal Queen Marika the Eternal is a god and the current vessel of the Elden Ring. She reigns as the divine sovereign of the Lands Between, and her Demigod offspring are shardbearers in possession of the Great Runes. She is the most influential figure in the world of Elden Ring. Overview Early Life Marika Ascension Marika at the Gate of Divinity Marika was a Numen, as well as a Shaman from the Shaman Village in the Hinterlands.[2] The Hornsent considered the flesh of Shamans to meld harmoniously with others,[3] and utilised this property in the jar rituals conducted on persecuted criminals, who were sliced up and stuffed into the jars to be reborn as saints instead.[4][5] The people of Marika's village were stolen away from their home to be used for this purpose.[6] Marika was at some point recognised as an Empyrean by the Two Fingers and gifted a Shadowbound Beast: her half-brother Maliketh. She later ascended to godhood at the Gate of Divinity atop the tower of Enir-Ilim,[7] becoming the vessel for the Elden Ring.[8] This affair led to the birth of the Erdtree and Scadutree,[9][10] and was considered a betrayal by the Hornsent. Prior to or following her ascension, Marika came into conflict with another Empyrean known as the Gloam-Eyed Queen. After emerging victorious, and desiring a world free of Destined Death, she removed the Rune of Death from the Elden Ring,[11] using Maliketh as a vessel to lock it away,[12] thus establishing the Golden Order.[13][14] At some point during this period, Marika took the warrior Godfrey as her consort, who became both the first demigod and first Elden Lord.[15][16] Eventually, Marika returned to the abandoned Shaman Village for the last time. After cutting off a braid of her hair and leaving it as an offering to the Grandmother, she bathed her home in the healing light of gold, knowing full well that there was no one to heal, and would never return. Age of the Erdtree In the early days, everything was in opposition to the Erdtree.[18] With Godfrey’s aid,[19] Marika waged a War Against the Giants atop the frigid northern mountains, whose Flame of Ruin was capable of burning the Erdtree.[20] Ultimately victorious, Marika was believed to have slain the Fell God of the Fire Giants.[21] Upon learning that the Flame of Ruin would never die, however, she cursed the last of the giants to tend to it for eternity.[22] Marika declared the path the mountains as Forbidden Lands and excised details of the war from history.[23] Marika and Godfrey would rule together and have at least three children: Godwyn the Golden and the twins Morgott and Mohg. The twins were both born as accursed Omen and were hidden in the depths below the capital. Even so, Godfrey and his Golden Lineage would be counted as the first of the demigods.[24] Godfrey went on to conquer many lands for the Erdtree. Liurnian Wars Queen Marika desired to conquer Liurnia of the Lakes, the land of the Academy of Raya Lucaria and the Carian Royal Family. She declared war on the glintstone sorcerers and sent a golden host led by her secret other half: a red-haired champion named Radagon. The champions of the moon, led by Rennala, repelled the glorious warriors of the Erdtree for a time but it ended in a draw. In the second Liurnian War, Radagon invades again but this time, he uses the Celestial Dew at the Church of Vows in a ritual to recant his aggressions and seek absolution. The Carian Queen accepted and their wrongdoings were washed away. The two were wed and produced three children: Radahn, Rykard, and Ranni. Godfrey's banishment With her rule secure, Marika announced her intention to search the depths of the Golden Order, declaring the early days of blind belief a thing long past.[25] When Godfrey's last foe fell it was said the hue of his eyes had faded.[26] Marika banished him and his kinfolk from the Lands Between, robbing them of their grace,[27] thus creating the first Tarnished, all in the hope that they would grow stronger by waging war in lands outside her rule, dying, and then eventually being revived with their guidance of grace returned.[28] Marika sent her son Messmer away on a crusade into the lands of the Hornsent. Despite her precautions, her fear of the Abyssal Serpent sealed within him led her to trap him within the Realm of Shadow, where he would wage war to exterminate the Hornsent and devastate their lands. No matter how many of her enemies burned in his flame, however, Messmer received no sign from Marika to end his crusade. To hide away these actions and the true nature of her godhood, Marika hid the Realm of Shadow behind a magical veil to obscure it from public knowledge. King Consort Radagon After Godfrey's banishment from the Lands Between, Marika took Radagon as second husband and King Consort, elevating him to become the second Elden Lord.[29] Radagon already had three children with Queen Rennala of the Carian Royal Family, and after his union with Marika, she would raise her new step-children, Radahn, Rykard and Ranni, to demigod status.[30] Marika and Radagon would go on to have two more children of their own, the twins Malenia and Miquella,[31] who like Marika herself and Radagon's daughter Ranni, were Empyreans,[32] and were thus potential successors to Marika. However, Radagon and Marika were in truth the same. Radagon was described as Marika's male "other self".[33] Thus the twins were the children of a single god, and they were both born afflicted: Malenia with rotting sickness and Miquella with eternal childhood.[34] Night of Black Knives On the Night of Black Knives, a fragment of the Rune of Death was stolen from Maliketh.[35] For a long time it was not known who was behind the plot,[36] but it is finally revealed it was in fact Ranni who stole the fragment of the rune to forge god-slaying black knives through a fearsome rite.[37] The Black Knife Assassins, Numen women purported to have close ties to Marika herself,[38] used these knives to slay Godwyn the Golden, the first recorded death of a demigod in all history.[39] Queen Marika is said to have been driven to the brink by this event,[40] and some time later she shattered the Elden Ring using her hammer.[41] She had already instructed her demigod children to fight for the positions of Elden Lord and that of godhood. The Shattering Elden Ring Screenshot 05 Marika shattered the Elden Ring Fragments of the ring splintered into Great Runes and spread across the Lands Between, starting a conflict between her demigod children. War after war was fought, but there was no victor.[43] For her part, Marika would be imprisoned inside the Erdtree,[44] possibly by the Elden Beast or the Greater Will itself.[45] True to her promise to Godfrey and his warriors, grace was restored to the banished Tarnished.[46] They would rise from their graves, and journey to the Lands Between to once again brandish the Elden Ring. The Tarnished formed the Roundtable Hold, where they worked to realize the goal given to them by Marika. They would be served by a Misbegotten blacksmith named Hewg, whom Marika herself had charged with smithing a "god-slaying weapon" before his imprisonment in the Hold. Endings ER Queen Marika Panorama Marika shattered and imprisoned inside the Erdtree Eventually, a Tarnished champion manages to fight their way into the Erdtree, where the shattered Marika lay imprisoned. Marika is suddenly released from her bonds, with Radagon asserting control of their shared body and confronting the Tarnished. After defeating Radagon and the Elden Beast itself, the Tarnished may choose what to do with the fractured body of Marika. Marika's head is restored to her frame if the Elden Ring is mended, either by itself or with a Mending Rune. If Ranni is summoned, she picks up Marika's head gently, peacefully dissipating along with the rest of her body. If the Tarnished is the Lord of Frenzied Flame, Marika's head breaks apart and crumbles into ash. By choosing to go down the Elden Lord path, whether the regular one or using any of the three Mending Runes to fix the Elden Ring within Marika, the Tarnished champion ushers in a new age. They become the third Elden Lord and effectively Marika's new consort in every one of them,[48] except in the Age of the Stars (where they become consort to Ranni) and in the Lord of Frenzied Flame ending (where they make the whole world burn). However, Queen Marika remains shattered and unresponsive, with only the Elden Ring itself shining brightly within her body. Echoes of Marika At certain Sites of Grace, the very words of Queen Marika yet linger.[49] Melina offers to share them with the Tarnished if she is traveling with them. The seven Echoes of Marika are as follows: Notes Marika's Rune resembles the crowning Rune Arc of the Elden Ring and mirrors her crucified pose within the Erdtree. It appears prominently on Marika's Scarseal, Marika's Soreseal, and Messmer's implanted right eye. The numerous crucifixion crosses in Limgrave and Dominula, Windmill Village are modeled after Marika's Rune. It is strongly implied that the Elden Beast crucified Marika upon the Rune Arc and imprisoned her within the Erdtree. When the Beast successfully grabs the player, it mirrors this by crucifying them on an identical arc before piercing them with barrage of golden spears. When Marika's body changes into Radagon, her dress becomes his skirt. Most information about Queen Marika is provided by Finger Reader Enia or gleaned from dialogue where Melina echoes Marika's words at specific sites of grace. Melina the Kindling Maiden is a secret child of Marika as she states her mother is inside the Erdtree.[50] She is bound by Grace,[51] quotes ancient words of Marika,[49] and later gains freedom of movement upon reaching the base of the Erdtree.[52] Melina is associated with a Smoldering Butterfly, fated to fulfill a purpose,[53][54][55] and implied to be the younger sister of Messmer the Impaler.[56][57] Furthermore, Melina is internally referenced as "MaricaOfDaughter" or "DaughterMarika". After enduring an eternity of forlorness, Messmer disowns Marika and curses her with his dying breath ----- Melina Melina is a mysterious, spectral girl who is the deuteragonist of Elden Ring. She offers an alliance with the Tarnished to help them on their journey. Overview Background Melina has long observed the Lands Between.[1] She was born at the foot of the Erdtree.[2][3] She is a secret child of Queen Marika, but not born of a mother. Unlike Messmer or Morgott, Melina does not recall Marika with fondness.[4] At some point long ago, Melina bore a vision of fire.[5] She was burned, leaving her bodiless;[6] a drifting spirit bound to Grace.[7]. Like her brother Messmer,[8] she was assigned a purpose by Marika.[3] However, she was unable to remember it. And so, Melina traveled with the spectral steed Torrent in search of the Tarnished who would lead her back to the foot of the Erdtree. There, she may ascertain her given purpose. The Tarnished Melina and Torrent spot a washed-up, maidenless Tarnished whom she believes is fortunate.[9] Sometime later, she approaches to offer them an accord: She could play the role of the missing Finger Maiden in return for a ride to the foot of the Erdtree.[10] If the player desires the strength of runes, and, if they accept the accord, Melina entrusts them with the Spectral Steed Whistle and, therefore, Torrent. When Melina starts traveling with the Tarnished, she advises them to follow the guidance of Grace and seek the shardbearer at Stormveil Castle.[11] Once the Tarnished defeats the demigod, Melina confesses that she was testing the Tarnished to see if they truly possessed the guidance of grace and if they were fit for the challenges to come. Satisfied with her new companion, Melina offers to take them to Roundtable Hold, a gathering place for Tarnished champions. Throughout their journey, Melina also provides specks of guidance at certain sites of grace and, at churches dedicated to Queen Marika, she offers to reveal words spoken by Marika herself in the distant past.[13] Leyndell, Royal Capital Upon arriving at their destination, the Royal Capital at the foot of the Erdtree, Melina thanks the Tarnished for escorting her and leaves to ascertain her purpose, claiming that she can govern her movement more freely there. She entrusts the power of runes and Torrent to the Tarnished.[7] She will also offer her aid should the Tarnished challenge Morgott, the Omen King, ruler of Leyndell and guardian of the Erdtree. After defeating Morgott, the Tarnished finds the path into the Erdtree barred by thorns refusing entrance to all. Melina, having ascertained her purpose and seeing the Tarnished stuck, rejoins the Tarnished to say that she can burn the Erdtree to gain entrance inside, provided that she can get ahold of the Giants' Flame. And hence, she asks to go on a new journey, this time to the flame of ruin, far above the clouds, upon the snowy Mountaintops of the Giants.[14] and tells them she will take care of the "kindling" required to set the tree alight.[15] Defeating Morgott also opens a path to the Three Fingers. If the Tarnished rests at the nearest grace from their entombment, Melina will warn against meeting them and insist against inheriting the Frenzied Flame, for it would end all lives and births, which she cherishes.[16] If the player ignores her warnings, or just inherits the Frenzied Flame without speaking with her, she will say that The Tarnished is no longer fit, ending her accord, and forever leaving their side but threatening to kill them should they become Lord of Chaos.[17] If the Tarnished instead heeds her warnings, Melina and the protagonist will continue their journey for the flame of ruin. When making their way to the Forge of the Giants, Melina clarifies that she is now acting of her own volition, regardless of the purpose that her mother gave her.[18] After defeating the guardian of the flame, Melina puts her plan into action. She takes the Tarnished's hand, narcotizing them by doing so, and proceeds to sacrifice herself to channel the flame of ruin, setting the Erdtree aflame.[19] The Tarnished, maidenless once more, wakes up at Crumbling Farum Azula. There, they must confront the Black Blade Maliketh and recover the Rune of Death. In this, Melina fulfills her purpose: "The one who walks alongside flame, Shall one day meet the road of Destined Death."[20] In a cutscene for the Lord of Frenzied Flame ending, a chorus of whistling leads a transformed Melina to the Spectral Steed Whistle. She recovers the smoldering ring from a pile of ash and holds it in her open palm. As the final remnants of Torrent are consumed by the Frenzied Flame, she vows retribution upon the player in the form of Destined Death Questline Progression Melina's questline runs parallel to the main storyline and thus must be completed to finish the game. Limgrave Rest at three sites of Grace after exiting the catacombs. For example, The First Step, Church of Elleh, and either Gatefront or Agheel Lake North Site of Grace. On the third, you will trigger the first interaction with Melina. She will offer you an accord, allowing you to continue her quest. If you refuse her accord, you cannot enter Leyndell, Royal Capital, even with two Great Runes. If you refuse, you may always change your mind by selecting "Talk to Melina" at any Site of Grace. If you accept, you will obtain the Spectral Seed Whistle, allowing you to summon Torrent. (Optional) After accepting her accord, Melina may appear when you rest at Sites of Grace to offer the dialogue options "The Rays of Grace" and "Melina's Goal". These options will no longer be available once you progress to the next step. Anywhere Rest at any Site of Grace outside Limgrave or fight Margit, the Fell Omen at least once to trigger another conversation in which Melina will invite you to Roundtable Hold. Accepting this invite is mandatory to access Leyndell, Royal Capital later in the game. Leyndell, Royal Capital Resting at a Site of Grace in Leyndell will trigger another interaction with Melina, after which she will leave you. Her dialogue options at various Sites of Grace will no longer be available until after you have defeated Morgott, Omen King. Leyndell, Royal Capital (Optional) Melina may be summoned as a cooperator through her summon sign outside Morgott's boss room. After defeating Morgott, approach the entrance to the Erdtree, and then turn back and rest at the Site of Grace. Melina will appear and after some dialogue, give you the Rold Medallion. Mountaintops of the Giants After defeating the Fire Giant and resting at the Forge of the Giants, you may talk to Melina. Speak to her and respond "I'm Ready" to end Melina's questline. You will not be able to hear any dialogue you may have missed. (Optional) If you visit the Frenzied Flame Proscription and interact with the Three Fingers before selecting "I'm ready" at the Forge of the Giants, Melina will appear at the next Site of Grace you rest at and will leave you permanently. You will now have the option "Listen to the flames" when you Rest at the Forge of the Giants Site of Grace, allowing you to progress to Crumbling Farum Azula. This will unlock an additional cutscene in the Lord of Frenzied Flame ending. Notes Melina is a child of Marika and has access to her most secret incantation.[3][23][24] This incantation will also be automatically cast when she dies, even as a cooperator, the only way to see this in-game without modding. Melina can be summoned to help fight against Morgott. Melina wields the Blade of Calling, which is golden flame counterpart to the Black Knife. Additionally, she uses two unplayable incantations that resemble the effects of Minor Erdtree and Miranda's Prayer.[22] Melina is not a Finger Maiden.[25] Melina is aware her agency will be restored if the Erdtree is destroyed.[17] If the player spares Melina and chooses the Lord of Frenzied Flame ending, she will be transformed after Marika and the Erdtree are destroyed.[21] Melina's purpose remains the same, but its context becomes flipped: "The one who walks alongside flame, Shall one day meet the road of Destined Death." Speculation It is implied that Melina is another child of Radagon and Marika: Naming Convention: Most siblings in the Lands Between share the first letter of their name. Messmer/Melina/Miquella/Malenia would be no exception to this rule. Hair Color: Melina's hair color seems to be a combination of Radagon and Marika's hair colors. Butterflies: There are four butterfly items in-game, each representing a cursed demigod: Nascent Butterfly (Miquella), Aeonian Butterfly (Malenia), Black Pyrefly (Messmer), Smoldering Butterfly (Melina). Messmer had a younger sister who also bore a vision of fire.[5] It is unknown when in the timeline Melina was born exactly, but Messmer acted as an older brother to Radahn.[26] The soundtrack for Messmer's boss fight shares a leitmotif with Radagon's boss theme.[27] It is implied that Melina gave Ranni the Spirit Calling Bell.[28][29] Melina has an implied connection to the Gloam-Eyed Queen as she inherits the power of Destined Death should the player spare her by using the Frenzied Flame as kindling -----
