His father was a soldier and his mother a homemaker; things in Russia changed and his father lost his status as a soldier and became a lazy, abusive drunk who would hit his wife and Yuriy constantly. His mother abandoned Yuriy with his father after some time of abuse and when the abuse got even worse, Yuriy stayed with his father. His father made him go out to get food and alcohol, meaning that Yuriy had to steal to remain alive. This was how he met Bryan his best friend. When Bryan and Yuriy were picked up from the streets by Boris they use to live in the abbey. In the abbey Yuriy had been trained from a young age to be a Beyblader, even so far as being genetically enhanced to ensure victory. Overall he has a very sarcastic and fiery personality and is quite easy to anger. He is also shown to be highly intelligent and intuitive, as he figured out Barthez's plan and how he was connected to Boris early on. He can be quite prideful of his abilities as he tends to underestimate his opponents but also shows a clear insecurity of his own abilities as well based on his jealousy of Kai. Despite Yuriy's displays of sarcasm and overall antagonistic attitude towards others, he is actually very caring of his team. claiming he won't let Boris ruin the hopes and dreams of anyone else. While Kai and Yuriy seemed to have a distant and indifferent relationship, Yuriy can be actually very kind and selfless with his team. About the Blitzkrieg Boys In the past, they were known as The Demolition Boys the team that represents Russia, and they originate from Moscow. They were formed and trained by Boris Balkov and Voltaire Hiwatari of the Biovolt Corporation. They were trained to believe in the total annihilation of their foes, and that victory is often not enough. Their training was harsh and cold, resulting in the bladers themselves becoming cold and harsh. Defeat is not taken lightly and those who lose are subject to punishment. Even years later, Kai still showed signs of his former life in their Abbey. Their team name changed from Demolition Boys to Blitzkrieg Boys, and Ian is no longer with the team. They invite Kai to join them. Kai, who was originally a member of the BBA Revolution, accepts, due to his will to defeat Tyson.
