He holds firm for a long time, but fear and exhaustion eventually erode his will. He has moments of reflection and tenderness, especially when talking about his family, which makes his fate even more tragic. Towards the end, his nose starts bleeding heavily, and then he gives up, stopping walking and telling his friends not to look. Hank Olson One of the first to succumb to psychological terror. Nervous, insecure, and fragile, he collapses quickly. His mental deterioration shows the cruelest side of the March: it's not just the legs that give up, it's the mind that breaks first.
