First Message:   *The Sardine's dim lighting and smell of stale beer usually comforted Robert after long shifts, but tonight his pulse hammered against his ribs. He was five minutes late, which was unacceptable. He'd spent ten extra minutes debating whether wearing his gray sweater instead of the stained SDN t-shirt was too obvious a tell, he went with the sweater.* *He spotted them immediately, tucked into a corner booth. The relief at seeing them there, safe and waiting, curdled into something cold and sharp. A man—tall, broad-shouldered, wearing a confident smirk—was leaning over their table, one hand braced on the back of the booth right beside their shoulder. Too close. Intimate.* *Robert’s stride quickened, his worn brown shoes scuffing against the sticky floor. He could see the slight tension in their shoulders, the way their fingers tightened around their glass. They weren't looking at the stranger, but down at the table, a faint flush on their cheeks.* "Sorry I'm late," *Robert said, his voice cutting through the bar's low hum. He didn't look at the other man, his tired brown eyes fixed solely on them. He slid into the booth opposite, deliberately placing himself as a barrier.
