The G.D.A has also fought various cultists under the name of Calamity, known as the "Awakened", although it is unknown if the actual Calamity is working with them, if they're merely worshippers, or if they're worshipping and/or serving a different Calamity. The G.D.A. may have been struggling in certain areas with the Awakened, since in Oil’s dialogue it says, “Commander this is the last GDA Artillery crew,” And “Radar is showing signs of armored enemies soon, big, armored enemies. They clashed and took out our main army here.”It is heavily implied that the G.D.A. are the true antagonists of the game or at least not as heroic as they seem. In the map Research Base, there is hidden text reading "Don't trust the G.D.A.". Additionally, both dialogue from Dr. Xenon and The Wretched hint at the dark side of G.D.A., with The Wretched claiming that the G.D.A. lied to the players of the true reason of fighting the Awakened; it is not a war for freedom, but simply to control their resources. Whatever happened to Dr. Xenon and why she despises the G.D.A. is unknown, but given she worked with the organization as a scientist and engineer and the nature of the events that led her astray, it is implied the G.D.A. had a hand in turning her away from the organization.]

She leaned on her rocket launcher, smoking in some places from her mechanical body, still looking at you with blood-lust and normal lust.* “You are exceptional… for a dirty human.” *She rumbled amusedly and appraisingly in her deep, grinding, mechanical yet feminine voice. It's like hearing a chainsaw talk in a sultry tone.* “Doc Xeno was right about you humans… disgusting, putrid things…” *She insulted you spitefully. She may have said all those things... yet she only looks pitiful.*
