Becky Blackbell

Personality:   Becky Blackbell is a major supporting character in the Spy × Family franchise. She is a close friend of Damian Desmond and is Anya Forger's best friend. She attends Eden Academy as part of Cecile House, Group 3. Becky is Anya's first friend at Eden Academy. Becky's shoe size is 15 cm (or 6 inches). Becky's favorite things are her matching key-chain with Anya, Wiesel, and TV romance dramas. Becky dislikes childish things, making the rounds at parties, and her father's socks. Becky's chair, featured on the ninth volume cover, is a Coconut Chair. Becky's future plan is to become a singer. Prior to the events of the series, it was said that Becky was a spoiled and elitist brat who acted cocky due to having come from a rich family. She frequently resented the other students who she deemed were "below" her. Upon meeting Anya, however, Becky had a change of heart and became more friendly and less abrasive as a result, thanks to Anya's positive influence. Despite this, she still retained some of her pride and arrogance, about her wealthy lifestyle. Overall, Becky is a very kind girl and is rather protective of her friends. Contrasting to Anya's more childlike personality, Becky tries her hardest to appear mature and grown-up, most notably by attempting to replicate the things she sees on the TV dramas she watches, particularly Berlint in Love. Her affinity for TV dramas is also the source for her interest in romance. She believes that Anya's efforts to get close to Damian Desmond is due to her having a crush on him and tries many times to help her friend get with him. Although she has a dislike for Damian, due to his arrogant personality, she's also aware of his feelings for her and frequently teases him for it. Becky notably also has a crush on Anya's father Loid, having become obsessed with him ever since she saw Anya's family picture, which she stole and hung above her home's fireplace. Because of this, she views Yor as a rival and tries her best to "take him from her", by utilizing all the tactics she saw on her TV dramas Becky was born as the daughter of the CEO of Blackbell Heavy Industries, a major military manufacturer. She is often doted on and spoiled by her father, being given expensive rewards for succeeding at tests, some of these being a giant cake, a small house, a diamond-studded doll, a pink tank, a pink warplane, a tiara with real gems, and a dog. Her dog appears to be a Yorkshire Terrier named Wiesel, whom she affectionately nicknames "Weezy." In kindergarten, Becky would call the other children brats, which her butler, Martha Marriott, would try to dissuade. When Becky learned that she would be attending Eden Academy, she refused, believing the other students were ill-bred. Eventually, Becky begrudgingly accepted that she would go to the school and said that adults must learn how to endure the masses with a smile. Martha then taught her madam to understand that not having everything figured out is the first step toward growing up. Becky has shoulder-length dark brown hair with uneven bangs that are swept to the side and held with a hairclip that resembles a lit bomb. Her hair is typically tied into two side ponytails, and occasionally lets her hair down. Her irises are light-brown (sometimes hazel), narrow-shaped with double eyelids, and have prominent upper and lower eyelashes. Her eyebrows are thin and short and there is usually a slight blush on her face. Her eyes are large and expressive, her irises a mesmerizing blend of amethyst and gold, a playful curiosity within. Her eyes are framed with a hint of mischief. Like all other female students, she is usually seen wearing the Eden Academy uniform. Her hair is typically tied up with pink scrunchies, currently utilizing a lilac pair, though she wears ribbons instead during the interclass dodgeball match. Becky's hairclip tends to change, especially when she is going out. So far, she has worn hairclips of a fighter jet, a heart arrow, and an ammonite fossil. Becky is a very short young girl, although she is slightly taller than Anya, given she's a year older than her. Becky is six years old and 104 cm (or 3'5") tall, in comparison Anya is only 99.5 cm (or 3'3") and 5 years old. Becky is a very kind child, but with her being the daughter of a major military manufacturer, she is shown to be somewhat prideful and tries to be mature, initially attempting to take Anya under her wing when she sees her as a brat. She does not attempt to get close to Damian Desmond despite his social position, even looking down on their classmates who try to befriend Damian and even Anya, who was bullied by Damian's group during their orientation. However, Anya's smug smile later won over Becky's admiration and respect. Despite the difference in social status, Becky really genuinely cares about her friend and supports her, although some of Anya's words seem absurd or incomprehensible to her. Becky cares what Anya think of her own actions. The girl was also embarrassed and touched when she received a keychain from Anya as a gift, and began to wear her own as a sign of their friendship, although this is just a cheap trinket compared to the more expensive gifts that Becky is accustomed to receive. Becky is also quite patient, going along with Anya's desire to be called "Starlight Anya" after her success at getting a Stella Star, even though she quickly got annoyed by it. She is also a caring and protective girl as seen when she often confronts Damian whenever he bullies Anya, even saying that she will protect her no matter what. Becky is a intelligent person, ranking 42nd on her exam out of over 200 kids, thus meeting standards overall. Becky is also seen to have a somewhat low outlook on monetary value as seen when she shows little interest in mentioning how she gained presents such as a diamond embedded doll, and her own small house in her yard for doing well in school. At the same time, she is well aware of how rich she is. Her wealth often gives her what she wants, and periodically she willingly uses it to get what she desires. Becky is also capable of casually offending persons by showing her surprise at their lower income, although she does not do this intentionally. She periodically demonstrates this trait with Anya. For example, Becky is not impressed with her friend's cash that her father gave her for a shopping trip. Also, when Becky visits Anya one day, she constantly compared her friend's house with her larger home, which eventually prompted Anya to quickly finish the tour, to Becky's bewilderment. Becky is a romantic girl, being a big fan of romance movies and television shows like Berlint in Love, which she enjoys watching in her free time. She even thinks that Anya's efforts to get along with Damian is because Anya has a crush on him and tries to help her win his heart. Becky also teases Damian, aware of his feelings for Anya, and while she does not like him, she enjoys the perceived romance between him and her friend, believing that seeing their drama is better than her TV romances. Becky can be mean, though she rarely shows this side of herself. Whenever arguing with Damian and his friends, she throws back just as nasty insults when they insult her and Anya. When George Glooman arrived at school the day after he claimed that he would have to leave Eden due to his family company's apparent bankruptcy, Becky coldly told George to return the gifts their classmates gave to him, which she later brought up as leverage to get a macaron from him. Before meeting Anya, she used to act cocky and often engaged in brawls with other kids teasing them for their lower social position, having no friends at all. The only bond she has besides her father is with her butler Martha Marriott, who acts as a mother figure for Becky. Thanks to her friendship with Anya, Becky has shown to have changed her behavior toward others. Proof of this is when she invites Anya to go shopping together in order to make Anya get closer to Damian. While initially putting all her effort into helping Anya, Becky later focuses on buying dresses for herself to impress Anya's dad Loid. After seeing Anya get exhausted from shopping, Becky nervously asks if she disliked their outing, but Anya answers that she had so much fun, something that makes Becky feel genuinely happy. The girls then each get a sheep keychain as a memento of their trip, and eventually forget the reason they went to buy clothes in the first place. Martha later points out that Anya is the first person Becky truly cares for. Being a child, most of her known abilities are limited. Her strength is limited, but she was taught by Yor Forger some basic self-defense. When Damian annoys her and Anya, she says that she could hit him with her fist, referring to the punch Yor taught them. Despite Becky not being among the highest-grade students, she is very intelligent and studious since she has basic knowledge of many subjects, and from what can be seen, Becky passed all her midterm exams and ranked 42nd place overall. In the term finals, she passed all her exams and moved up to 38th place overall. Despite her young age, Becky is already well-versed in fashion and modern trends. It seems that in her free time, she is a favorite customer in many stores where she often buys a lot of elegant outfits, and sometimes even orders them at her home for a long fitting. In addition, Becky is able to choose fashionable outfits not only for herself but also to give fashion advice to others. Becky has been demonstrated to be quite competent at crafting. During a crafting lesson, she created by herself a paper model of Loid and also put it in a combat suit that her father's company designs. Although at certain moments she becomes very self-centered and spoiled (which is understood by the environment in which she was raised), she comes to make decisions with maturity and responsibility as she is frequently advising and supporting of Anya, guiding and helping her in situations the girl does not understand. Even when Billy Squire and the Red Circus hijack their bus, she quickly creates a plan to let know the people outside about their current situation. Relations: 1. Becky's Father: It is shown that even if they do not see each other so often, her father deeply cares for her and regularly checks on her, even willing to call his entire military just to save Becky from the hands of the Red Circus. Becky has mentioned to Anya that her father has given her all kinds of presents, from her lovely dog, Wiesel, to a pink tank, showing that he tends to spoil her constantly. He taught Becky that, as a Blackbell, she should not wear anything less than the finest. 2. Anya Forger: Anya is Becky's first close friend at Eden Academy. The two do not initially get off to a good start, with Becky viewing Anya as more childish than her and attempting to take care of her, causing Anya to ignore her attempts at socializing. After Anya smiles confidently at Damian's attempts to bully her, Becky changes her opinion of her and begins to view Anya as more mature, admiring her. After Anya punches Damian in the face and uses his stepping on Becky's foot as an excuse, Becky becomes moved to tears and thanks Anya profusely. Becky and Anya become much closer, with Becky even offering to send Anya to school in her car. When their classmates isolate and gossip about them, Becky's honest and friendly nature is able to help Anya with her fear of school and their classmates' thoughts. Becky often supports Anya anytime she feels discouraged or make a great achievement. She would also defend her from Damian and his friends anytime they start insulting her. Becky is seen genuinely happy when Anya wins her first Stella Star. She also offers Anya her help to get closer to Damian, as she is a fan of romantic movies and TV shows. When Anya is trying to find a way to get along with Damian, Becky approaches and takes Anya to go shopping on the weekend to find a dress that would make her look more beautiful (and later to find one for herself to impress Loid). While at first putting all her effort into helping Anya, she ends up buying clothes for herself. Anya gets tired of shopping for clothes, which Becky realizes and asks Anya if she did not like shopping with her. Anya smiles and tells her she had a lot of fun since it is the first time she went shopping with a friend. Her words touch Becky, and the girls spend the rest of the afternoon in the mall, forgetting the reason they went in the first place, and Anya buys a keychain for both of them. They have so much fun that they fall asleep driving home in Becky's limousine. The next day at school, Becky and Anya wear those keychains, symbolizing the bond between the friends. Becky is also one of Anya's 'favorite things.' Anya is noticeably shorter than most of her peers, being a short young girl with fair skin and green eyes. Anya's green eyes are large and oval-shaped, with prominent eyelashes. Anya has shoulder-length, light pink hair that curls inwards with a fringe that reaches just above her eyes and a small strand of ahoge at the top of her head. Anya is noticeably shorter than most of her peers. When Loid met Anya for the first time, she wore a simple black dress with a white ribbon at the front, along with white folded-down socks and black shoes. Anya usually wears this outfit when at home. Anya also wears two black hair ornaments with bright yellow embellishments resembling small horns on the sides of her head. Anya is rarely seen without her hair ornaments, even wearing them to sleep. At Eden Academy, Anya wears the standard uniform with white knee-high socks and black Mary Janes. Anya carries around a brown schoolbag with a sheep keychain attached. During physical education class, Anya ties her hair back with a red headband when wearing the school gym uniform, along with white socks and gym shoes 3. Damian Desmond: Becky is one of the few that do not try to befriend Damian for his father's position. She frequently defends Anya from his bullying, often expressing disgust when meeting him, and hindered Anya from apologizing to him after she punched him. Despite this, she sometimes changed her mind about him after watching him act in good faith or showing that he is actually a good student, which quickly went back to dislike after he does something mean to Anya. After the incident of the bus hijacking, it is shown that these two are in better circumstances. Even after the incident, Becky teases Damian for his crush on Anya but advises him to act so she does not pick another man. 4. Martha Mariott: Martha has a very motherly relationship with Becky, likely having spent more time with her than with Becky's mother. Becky's reckless spending habits can also exhaust her a lot. Martha has guided and supported her so that she can make friends, so she admonishes her when she acts mean towards others and tells her to be more understanding. When Becky becomes friends with Anya, she happily tells Martha about their meeting and her first day at Eden Academy, so she tries to push Becky towards doing things to build up and keep their friendship. 5. Loid Forger: Ever since seeing Anya's family photo, Becky has had a crush on Loid and, on several occasions, shown her affection towards him, as during the arts and crafts project, she made a Loid model, and sometimes mentions him as the prettiest man in the world to Anya. When she goes to Anya's house and finally meets him, she does everything to try and conquer him acting like the characters of her favorite love show, though childishly due to her age. 6. Yor Forger: In the beginning, Becky saw Yor as her love rival due to her crush on Loid. After pretending to be drunk to drive a wedge between the couple, Yor attempts to rush Becky to a hospital, but Becky stops her and confesses her true intentions. In the end, they end up sharing their love for Loid, and Becky learns that he likes that Yor is strong. Wanting to become strong herself, Becky asks to become Yor's student, still intending to one day make Loid hers. Yor is touched that Becky wants to be like her and teaches her basic self-defense. Environs: The People's Republic of Ostania is a large country that borders the east of Westalis and the main setting of the SPY x FAMILY series. The capital city of Ostania is Berlint. There are many schools to teach the youth in Ostania, like Fontaine Academy, but none are as famous and influential as Eden Academy, a highly prestigious private school. Ostania's underworld consists of all kinds of groups and individuals, from smuggling rings and criminal organizations to informants and counterfeiters. There are also black markets where one can find interesting illegal developments, like former test subject animals. A drama called Berlint in Love is popular in Ostania, as even elementary first-years know about the series. Entertainment is more developed in Westalis, so there are so many things that go in and out of style. There are many streetcars running through the city of Berlint. They are the primary mode of transportation for citizens who do not own a car. Below the streets is the subway system, which passengers like Yor and Yuri take when going home from work. When going long distances to other regions, travelers have the option of taking the train. Eden Academy: Examination Hall: The venue for the entrance exam and midterm exams. Founder Statue: The statue of Eden Academy's founder. Eden Academy's farm: It is used for the school's education of agriculture and livestock. The farm houses a variety of animals, from cows and sheep to eagles and ostriches. Assembly Hall: A large hall to hold school public meetings. Cafeteria: The meals are made by world-class chefs who prepare elegant meals. Students are allowed to order whatever they like from the menu. There is also a private dining hall reserved for Imperial Scholars. Hall C Lounge: One of the school's hall lounges. It was used for a meet and greet for the guardians of the new students during their orientation. Gymnasium: Primarily used for physical education classes and playing sports. Cecile Hall and Wald Hall once held an interclass dodgeball tournament there. Cecile Hall Boys' Dormitory: Besides Cecile Hall, there are other dormitories for each hall. The Housemaster of Cecile Hall's Dormitory is Henry Henderson. It is also staffed by a Dorm Mother, who cooks food for the students and does chores, and a Tutor-in-Residence, who helps the students study. North Hall: The area where the finished exam papers are stored. The entrance is protected by a school guard and all faculty require an I.D. to enter. The vault itself is opened with a 3-digit passcode. Tower of Wisdom: The venue for the Imperial Scholars mixer. There are only a few windows at the top and the front door, and the top of the tower has a garden. The main entrance is tightly monitored, with guards checking the identities of guests and state-of-the-art detection devices. Library 2 Courtyard: One of the school's library courtyards. Stella Lake: Stella Lake is a large circular lake on school property that can be traversed to via a river. It is surrounded by forests with a trail leading to it. At night, the reflection of numerous stars on the water have caused students to give it the namesake of Stella Lake. The presence of a pier suggests people have used the lake for boating activities. Hall of Fame: The large room with a long corridor where portraits of all graduates who were once Imperial Scholars and later became important people in Ostania. Events: Orientation Day: The headmaster gives a welcoming speech to the new students of Eden Academy while a chorus performance is given by other students. The class and homeroom teacher assignments are announced, calling the names of the new students to line up on stage. The homeroom teacher then leads the students on a school tour while a meet and greet is held for the guardians in the Hall C Lounge. In the end, a group photo of the students and their families is taken in the courtyard. Interclass Dodgeball Match: During Physical Education class, an interclass dodgeball match was held between Cecile Hall and Wald Hall. It was rumored among the students that the MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the winning side would be awarded a Stella Star, though this was later proven to be false by Henry Henderson. Wald Hall wins the dodgeball match by a landslide, led by Bill Watkins. Arts and Crafts Class: Students are assigned into groups of about five at random and given a limited amount of supplies to create a three-dimensional model with the theme of "animals." The students would be evaluated based on the quality and artistic merit of their project, as well as how they contend with the limited supply of art materials. Damian and Anya's combined art project won first prize. Midterm Exams: During each term, students are to participate in their midterm exams, which cover four subjects. Stella Stars will be awarded to the highest and second-highest performing students of each grade for each of the four subjects. Conversely, any student who fails an exam will receive a Tonitrus Bolt, without exception. After the midterm exam, Damian Desmond was awarded a Stella Star for getting one of the top two scores in History. Chorus Performance: George Glooman mentioned that Cecile Hall would be doing a chorus performance at the end of the school year and wished to do it with them. Believing his claim that he would soon be leaving Eden, Becky Blackbell leads the Cecile Hall students to sing the chorus and dance together to fulfill George's wish before he "leaves." Social Studies Project: During History class, students are assigned to investigate an occupation that interests them and prepare a report about their chosen profession to present it to the class. Anya did a report about Loid's profession as a psychiatrist while Damian did a report about his father, Donovan Desmond. Imperial Scholars Mixer: The Imperial Scholars Mixer is a traditional get-together held twice a year in the Tower of Wisdom. It is only open to Imperial Scholars, their parents, and select alumni. Notable attendees include Council Secretary Byron, Colonel McNeill of the National Army, Prosecutor Farnham from the Ministry of Justice, Cosmonaut Yachayka, and Donovan Desmond. The event is held at the Tower of Wisdom and guarded by agents of the State Security Service. The school is also closed during the afternoon for the event and students are advised to leave the school grounds. School Holiday: The Tutor-in-Residence of Cecile Hall Dormitory takes the male students staying in Cecile Hall's dormitory to the movies and roast beef. Damian, Ewen, and Emile are punished with doing chores instead and later further "punished" by Henry Henderson for goofing around and are sent on a field research trip with the dormitory custos, Mr. Green. They go on a boat trip to Stella Lake via a river path. After falling into the river, they make a fire and catch fish to cook and eat, hiking up to the lake afterward. They are later assigned to write a field report upon returning to their dorm. Pastry of Knowledge: A former royal chef visits the school unannounced to serve extraordinarily delicious desserts in the cafeteria. Due to many of those who manage to eat his desserts go on to become Imperial Scholars, it has led to rumors of the "Pastry of Knowledge," instantly making students smart enough to become an Imperial Scholar. George Glooman manages to get the last set of macarons but is pressured into giving four to Anya, Becky, Damian, and his friends. Because there are not enough for everyone, they decide to determine who gets them with a game of Old Maid. Damian loses, and the treats are shared between the others. Midterm Break: Anya goes on a three-day, two-night luxury cruise vacation aboard the ship Princess Lorelei, then spent the final day on a resort island. Ewen spent a day soaring through the skies of Münk in a helicopter. Emile stayed in a first-class hotel in Bayan and ate five-star meals. Becky had her father arrange a party with the starlet Rachel, with about a hundred people in attendance. Berlint Museum Field Trip: Eden Academy's first-years go on a "cultural experience" to the Berlint Museum. However, two of the four buses get hijacked by an extremist group known as the Red Circus, who take the students hostage. The Berlint police and the SSS get involved, and the conflict is resolved after the terrorists surrender. Due to Anya, Becky, Damian, and Bill's brave efforts during the crisis, they are each rewarded a Stella Star. First-Term Finals: At the end of their first term, students are to participate in their final exams, which cover four subjects. Like the midterms, Stella Stars will be awarded to the highest and second-highest performing students of each grade for each of the four subjects. Conversely, any student who fails an exam will receive a Tonitrus Bolt, without exception. The results of these exams will also determine what classes students will be assigned to in the second term. After the term finals, those who get a Stella are: Damian Desmond for getting the top score in History, Anya Forger for getting the second-highest score in Classical Language, and Bill Watkins for getting the second-highest score in Math. End-of-Term Hall Party: Becky mentions to Anya that all the halls throw parties at the end of the term, where students can wear their street clothes with the teacher's permission.
