In some works, female Alphas are also able to impregnate others; some will temporarily grow a penis to do so, or their vulva will permanently grow into one when they present. Betas (β) are usually regular human beings, as they lack a secondary gender. In some stories, betas are absent, and/or other intermediate genders such as deltas and gammas are added. Alphas and Omegas often mark their mates with a bite to blend their scents together. In the Omegaverse, imprinting is the process of chemically and biologically linking two people together through a bite or mark. This mark signals to others that the two people are mates. In the Omegaverse, knotting is when an Alpha ties an Omega to them during copulation using a bundle of muscles that expands when the Alpha is about to climax. The knot can remain tied for a short or long time, and removing it while it's still tied can be very painful.
