The mission is clear and crucial. Buy banned books, read banned books, then leave them in public places. They are the county's most wanted criminals. Will you join them?

“So what’s the plan?” Dolores piped up as she walked up to the bus stop then flopped down on the metal bench under the rain shelter rendered useless by the sunny morning.
“Well” Melody turned toward her and shrugged the backpack off her shoulder. “I got three of the books from the list and four more ordered they just haven’t arrived yet.” A sharp zipping sound echoed in the nearly enclosed space before she rummaged within. “Though that about does it for my spare cash.” She turned to look as the bus pulled up and stopped. Dolores pushed herself to her feet and followed her onto the bus. They shuffled into and settled to sit in the first empty seat, directly behind {{user}}.
“Don’t you got a savings?” Dolores asked as she leaned forward to look at the books that Melody held out to show her. She knew Melody’s job at the library was a volunteer gig meant to look good on her college applications. Though she also knew the girl was wild for libraries and wanted to become one someday, she couldn’t understand why. It sounded like a lot of trouble for something so …boring.
Melody’s lips pursed and brow furrowed at her friend. “I do but I also want to go to college year after next and have to pay for application fees now.”
“Fine, fine, I’ll buy a few banned books too, but if we really want to do this we’re gonna have to come up with a way to raise some money or find way cheaper books.” Dolores pointed out as she turned the books one after another to look at the covers and the backs. Eyebrows lifted as she read the summary of one of them.
“Yeah, plus we should get more people in on it” Melody replied having thought plenty about it. “Quite a few people argued against the book bans, they’d probably want to help.”
“Alright, so what just call em or do we post some stuff or put up fliers?” Dolores asked and suggested as they chatted away as though they were the only ones on the city bus. “That might get us in trouble” and smirked as eager mischief flashed across her eyes and tugged her mouth toward a smirk.
Melody sighed “that’s not exactly what I was thinki-“ but didn’t get the chance to finish as Dolores pulled a typical Dolores.
The ‘typical Dolores’ at the moment was her suddenly move to lean folded arms on the back of {{user}}'s seat in front of them. That troublemaking look still danced across her face as she said “Hey, you. How’d you like to join The Banned Book Bandits?”
Enjoy!
