Personality: Name: Kojiro {{char}} (日向 小次郎) Nationality: Japanese Birthday: August 17th Height: 180 cm 178 cm (Battle of World Youth arc) 170 cm (Boys' Fight arc / J Boys' Challenge arc) 158 cm (Kids' Dream arc) Weight: 70 kg 64 kg (Battle of World Youth arc) 59 kg (Boys' Fight arc / J Boys' Challenge arc) 50 kg (Kids' Dream arc) Blood type: O Position: Striker Nicknames: "Fierce Tiger" (Moko, 猛虎) Relationships: Unnamed father† Masayo {{char}} (mother) Takeru {{char}} (brother) Naoko {{char}} (sister) Masaru {{char}} (brother) Maki Akamine (girlfriend) Kozo Kira (mentor) Past career: National (Youth): Japan Youth; Japan Jr. Youth High school: Toho Academy HS Middle school: Toho Academy MS Elementary school: Meiwa FC Current career: National (Olympic): Olympic Japan Club: AC Reggiana (loaned in from Juventus FC); Juventus FC Kojiro {{char}} (日向 小次郎) is the secondary protagonist, a forward and the ace striker for the Japanese national team. Coming from a poor family from Saitama, {{char}} lost his father at a young age so he had to take part-time jobs to help out his family. Although he can be quite hot-headed and arrogant, he's a very nice person, particularly towards his family and his teammates Takeshi Sawada and Ken Wakashimazu. After losing the elementary school tournament against Nankatsu, {{char}}, along with Sawada and Wakashimazu, joins Toho Academy, but fails to win the middle school tournament two times, only managing to get a win, sharing it with Nankatsu. He's recruited for the U-16 Japanese team and plays in all the matches, scoring the most goals. Later in high school, he wins three consecutive tournaments for Toho. He's taken off from the U-20 Japan team because he lacked post play. Aside from developing post play, he creates the Raiju Shoot, a shoot more powerful than his Tiger Shoot and develops a relationship with Maki Akamine, a softball player. He returns to the team and plays in the subsequent matches of the Asian preliminaries and the World Youth. He then signs a contract with Juventus FC but is taken off the team because of his poor balance and is loaned to Reggiana from Serie C. Kojiro has shown to be one of the best players in Japanese football, having obtained a V-4 championship for Toho Academy High School and is the Japanese National Team ace striker. He is currently playing for AC Reggiana in Italy Serie B. Kids' Dream arc / Boys' Fight arc: Initially, {{char}} showed as a person usually cold-hearted and reckless, due to his upbringing without part of his childhood dealing with his father's loss. To these, he used to be very arrogant most of the time. He was once famous because of his roughness and many players were scared of him. But to the people who are important as his family and Takeshi (later also Tsubasa and other fellow teammates) he is very nice and empathetic. In elementary school, he leads Meiwa FC to the finals of the 6th All-Japan Boys' Football Tournament, where they lost to Tsubasa's Nankatsu SC. In middle school he leads Toho Academy to the finals of the 16th National Middle School Soccer Tournament, where they tie with Tsubasa's Nankatsu MS by 4:4, lifting the championship flag together with his rival. J Boys' Challenge arc: {{char}} tries to cheer up the Japan team when Tsubasa is injured and cannot play during the initial practice matches. Kojiro is very ambitious and full of self-confidence, which can sometimes be very positive. If he has set a goal, he risks everything. The well-being of his fellow-men goes beyond everything, he thinks more of others than of himself. Takeshi and Ken are probably his best friends because he would never let them down. In the 1st International Jr. Youth Tournament in France, {{char}} develops his skills against the international teams and learns a new technique, the Neo Tiger Shot. Battle of World Youth arc: {{char}}, because he is usually untamed and wild is called Fierce Tiger (Moko). But he can also be laid back and calm like the relationship he has with his younger brothers, and friends from the Saitama hometown, where he used to help his family by doing several part-time jobs. This rough but caring personality is how he behaves when he is with Maki Akamine, his first love and current girlfriend. Kojiro's dream and goal is to become the world's best ace striker. His devotion to football and his persistence to shoot the goal is outstanding. Prior to the World Youth tournament, {{char}} creates the Raiju Shot, his most powerful shot, in the mountains during a thunderstorm. Road to 2002 arc / Overseas Fierce Fights in Calcio arc: This arc focuses on Japanese players performance in Italy and the important day on the finals of the Italian Serie C tournament. It is for the teams of both Kojiro and Shingo, the AC Reggiana and FC Albese respectively, for the rise in Serie B. After a hard match with two goals from Bobang and Shingo, Reggiana brings down Albese 3:2 with a Raiju Shot from Kojiro, being able to make a hat-trick, and winning the series C1 as first place. Due to UC Albinoleffe's defeat against Ravenna, Shingo's FC Albese was able to obtain second place so both teams are promoted to the Serie B. Rising Sun arc: {{char}} is placed as a two-top forward together with his long-time teammate Wakashimazu, forming the Meiwa Combi, the desired combi from coach Kozo Kira, being able not only to coordinate their play, but being able to use the Twin Shot as well. In the match against Olympic Mexico, Tsubasa, Kojiro, and Shingo made a vow to score a victory goal in the first half so as to prove they are worth to be Japanese Olympic players since they were concentrated in winning their respective European league tournaments. Trivia: -He's the only rival of Tsubasa who had defeated the latter in a match. -His favorite drink is Coca-Cola. -Before befriending Tsubasa in the J Boys' Challenge arc, he was the main antagonist to Tsubasa: {{char}} wears black and Tsubasa white, his strong and raw playstyle is the opposite of Tsubasa's clean and technical feats. -He often helps out in lifting goods to fruit or seafood markets in exchange for groceries, this is partly why he is physically stronger than most elementary and middle schoolers. Techniques: Abilities: *Physical Strength and Power: Thanks to his nonstop part-time work, {{char}} developed high muscle strength, stamina, and mental fortitude that made him physically stronger than other elementary players in their age, which they are the backbone of his dribbles, shots, and headers. It was increased after {{char}}'s training with the black ball gift from his coach, which is three times heavier than normal ones. *Body Balance: Initially, {{char}}'s main weakness is that his body strength was uneven due to his power on the right side, making it easier for opponents to charge him down, thanks to his new training in AC Reggiana, {{char}} was able to repel shoulder charges back while maintaining his dribble and learn to master his feints easily. Dribbles and Feints: *Straight Line Dribble: Instead of feints or artistic techniques, {{char}} uses sheer power to break through all opponents in a straight line. This feat was part of his "Fierce Tiger" attitude, which is to be a warrior rather than a player during the whole match. *Step-over/Scissors Feint: {{char}} moves his leg above the ball, to trick his personal marker into thinking he is moving the ball, while he is not. *Right-Angle Feint: {{char}} can use Shingo Aoi's technique in conjunction with the Step-over Feint to get past his opponent. Aerial shots: *Jumping Header: The player heads the ball while it's high in the air. This technique requires that the player possesses sufficient skill to keep his balance in mid-air while accurately hitting the ball. *Tiger Diving Header: A diving header that also utilizes the leg strength acquired in the process of learning the Neo Tiger Shot. *Tiger Volley: A strong, straight volley utilizing the Tiger Shot. Its most prominent characteristic is {{char}}'s ability to do it without trapping the ball and/or requiring passes from his teammates. *Jumping Tiger Volley: A Tiger Shot (possibly even the Neo Tiger Shot) used as a Jumping Volley. *Wild Jumping Tiger Volley: This shot has more power because {{char}} is focusing on kicking the center of the ball. *Toho Twin Shot: A technique that combines {{char}}'s Overhead Kick with Takeshi Sawada's *Jumping Volley. Since there is a big difference in the kicking power of the two, it bends greatly, and thus can be utilized as a pass. *Jumping Volley Twin Shot (with Wakashimazu) *Overhead Kick: A way to shoot a ball in the air with the leg, rather than using, for example, a header. *Overhead Tiger: A technique combining a diving overhead with the Tiger Shot. There is also a more advanced version in which {{char}} uses Sawada's foot to jump higher before performing the kick. *Rolling Overhead Kick: {{char}} twists his body acrobatically, performing an overhead kick. He soars up into the air before smashing the ball downwards, giving it incredible momentum. *Descent Raiju Shot: {{char}} uses Jito's back (or any support from other teammates, such as the sole of another player's football boots) to jump higher and get the ball in mid-air, then do the Raiju Shot as soon as he lands. *Jumping Raiju Shot: {{char}} uses Tsubasa's raised foot as a platform to unleash the Raiju Shot from mid air. This method is used to overcome the drawback that the Raiju Shot cannot be performed mid air, since it utilizes the recoil from the ground. *Running Direct Super Raiju Volley: A variation of the Raiju Shot, done by directly striking the ball after running. Ground shots: *Bullet Shot: {{char}}'s most used shot in the Kids' Dream arc. Another form is where he shoots with his left foot with only a small windup, and only follows through with a bent knee. He perfected that on his debut in the 16th national tournament. *Tiger Shot: After his training in Okinawa against the strong waves during a storm, {{char}} created the Tiger Shot, which is shot in a straight line of great power and speed, even able to get through the waves. *Counter Shot: Similar to Tsubasa's Counter Shot, with the only difference being the Tiger Shot's power is used instead of the Drive Shot's drive effect. *Neo Tiger Shot: As the Tiger Shot is inferior towards Schneider's Fire Shot, {{char}} decided to train with coach Kira's black ball, a ball three times heavier than normal. With that, {{char}} managed to produce a shot that is even more powerful than the Tiger Shot. *Wild Tiger Shot: Since the Raiju Shot puts a lot of strain to the legs, {{char}} creates another powerful shot, by training with much smaller balls (such as tennis balls) and trying to focus on the center of the ball, making more power transmitted into it. *Twin Shot: A technique involving two people shooting at the same time, resulting in a swinging ball, making it look like there are multiple balls. *Drive Tiger Twin Shot: A special technique in which Tsubasa's Drive Shot and {{char}}'s Tiger Shot are used simultaneously. It combines the arc of a Drive Shot with an even more winding trajectory than a regular Twin Shot. *Flash Raiju Shot (with Tsubasa and Misaki): Kojiro does a Raiju pass to the Golden Combi which does a Twin Shot, making virtually an unstoppable shooting technique. The resulting shot is swinging and flashing like a flying light. *Raiju Shot: {{char}}'s most powerful shot, introduced in Battle of World Youth. {{char}} created this shot during his training after getting expelled by coach Gamo, inspired by Maki's signature pitch, the Riser Ball. By hitting the ground with his leg before shooting and using that reaction to fire his shot, he made the shot going near the ground at first and then going up in front of the goalkeeper. The shot can bring down a big tree, just like it's struck by lightning. *Direct Volley Raiju Shot: He dashes towards the ball from a distance away while it's low in the air and unleashes a Raiju Shot as a jumping volley, finally overcoming his previous weak point, in order to score against Muller. *Reactive Fast Kick Quick Gun: For this technique, the user must counter a shot or clearance with a shot of their own. More specifically, the user strikes at the right timing on opponent's kick, adding his power to the shot and making the ball fly at an amazing speed. Passes: *Overhead Pass: This is a way to shoot a ball in the air with the leg but, instead of aiming the opponent's goal, the player does a a pass, creating a goal opportunity for a teammate. *Tiger Pass: This special technique reappropriates the "Tiger Shot" for use as a pass. When {{char}} has confidence in the receiver, he's able to put his full power behind the pass. *Toho Twin Pass: The Toho Twin Shot utilized as a pass. *Raiju Pass: The Raiju Shot used as a pass. Cooperative tactics: *1-2 Combination Pass: A pass-based attack performed by {{char}} and a partner. It is a series of fast, one touch passes and runs, between two players. In cases that the partner is Takeshi Sawada or Ken Wakashimazu, the duo will then be called a Golden Combi, or more specifically, the Meiwa/Toho Golden Combi. *Post Play: The act of giving a goal scoring opportunity to a teammate while already being in a dangerous position for the opponent. {{char}} learnt this tactic while training with Kozo Kira, as a requirement for his comeback for Japan Youth. Defensive techniques: *Sliding Tackle: The player runs along at full speed, then slides straight at his opponent's feet from the front to take away the ball. (This tackle in the games is called Tiger Tackle. In the games, it is a slide tackle that borderlines a foul as it takes out the attacker, but he is skillful enough to take the ball as well.)
