  • Personality:   The flying squadron is a kind of club that is supervised by Lissa Clearwater . Students with a second form that is capable of flying can voluntarily join the flying squadron and leave it again. They practice together, do special projects and complete special tasks [2] . In a pine tree [55] about eighty meters from the school [56] there is a tree house made of boards with a rope ladder about five meters high [55] , which is claimed by Carag and his friends. It has a balcony [57] with a roughly made railing made of branches [58] , a wooden door and a window and is furnished with a cloth blanket [59] and several pillows [58] , including a checkered one and one with a floral pattern [60] .The basement, which has an unmistakable smell of metal, wood chips and earth [48] , is largely occupied by a huge tunnel area in which terrestrial species can dig undisturbed. The remaining rooms are distributed around the periphery: if you come down the stairs and turn left, you first see the cold storage room and two storage areas for food and drinks, followed by two physics and chemistry laboratories with tiled tables [49] and a small toilet. The kitchen is twice as big as the largest student room and is equipped with steel cabinets, stoves, sinks and chopping boards, as well as a huge silver refrigerator. Kitchen appliances are hanging and standing everywhere, there are dozens of cans of spices on shelves, and in one corner there are sacks of pasta, rice and flour. [44] There is also a greenhouse belonging to Miss Rivergirl here , and another one is further back on the floor. On the right side, however, are two computer rooms and a retreat area. While the cafeteria is located on the north side of the courtyard, on the other sides is the lounge area with small tables, around which are scattered sofas, padded baskets and soft cushions. One of the sofas is covered with soft red fabric [45] and another with blue [46] and there are several laptops, a table football table and a cabinet with games [42] as well as two televisions [47] and a fireplace. The outdoor area is bordered by several balconies that resemble swallows' nests.Clearwater High is located in a hunting protection zone and also in an area that Andrew Milling and his allies are not allowed to enter. A grassy parking lot for cars leads first to a pine grove [1] and then to another small grass parking lot in front of the school, which also has bicycle racks. The school building itself consists of modern, exposed brick walls and lots of glass [2] and is about 80 m long and 60 m wide [3] and about 22 m high at the highest point, the glass dome [4] . Towards the rear, however, the apparently normal school increasingly resembles part of the landscape itself. Here it consists of large, irregularly stacked granite blocks, covered with tufts of grass, bearberry and a few baby pines [6] , into which the windows of the students' rooms are set. These come in a variety of shapes and sizes and provide an easy way to enter or exit the school directly over the granite blocks. [2] Grass and bushes also grow on the school roof [7] . The school building is built roughly like an open square, with a shady courtyard covered with grass and trees [8] in the middle , which can be reached via the classrooms. There is also a table and a chair for Mr Ellwood to use during his lessons [9] . Two double doors on the side, with windows set into them [10] , lead to the two playgrounds next to the school. Behind the building there is a basketball and volleyball court as well as several garbage containers [11] and the small [12] concrete garbage shed [13] , which was freshly painted green by Carag and Jeffrey in Enemy Traces and is secured with a code and a padlock [14] . The school also has a compost heap [15] . The hallways inside the school are high and wide [16] and the doors are about twice the size of normal doors [17] . In addition to the typical red button for the fire alarm, there is also a blue button that sets off the "human alarm" [18] - a high-pitched sound that only shifters can hear, which warns shifters of the arrival of humans in the school. In the rear part, separated from the student rooms by two more toilets and the side stairs, are the eight private rooms of the employees (except for Theo , whose rooms are in the basement). One of these rooms is intended for guest teachers. Little is known about the teachers' rooms, as only Mr Bridger 's appears in the books. They contain a desk with three screens and a photo of Miss Yanaba and Joe , a sofa full of stacks of printouts and half-disassembled electronic devices, and next to it a shelf containing numerous travel guides, a stereo system, and a pot with a desert plant. Outside the door, instead of a name, there is an old Texas license plate. [40] The teachers' private rooms are connected by intermediate doors [41] .The main entrance to the school leads directly into the entrance hall, in the middle of which grows a living maple tree as tall as a person [20] that reaches up to the second floor. A staircase on each side connects the floors of the school and right next to these are two small toilet rooms. To the left of the entrance hall is the library, to the right is Theo's caretaker's office and the media room. In the corridors, whose walls and floors are painted in a warm light brown [21] , hang oil paintings by Mrs Parker , although these have since been replaced by artwork by the students. There are eight classrooms in total, four of which border the courtyard. Tripel-Wandler sind eine besonders seltene Art der Wandler, die neben der Menschengestalt nicht nur eine, sondern zwei Tiergestalten haben, wobei zwei auch das Maximum ist, da mehr Gestalten den Körper überfordern würden[25]. Aufgrund der schwachen Vererbung (siehe unten) ist nur etwa einer von siebenhundert Wandlern ein Tripel-Wandler[1]. Dabei gibt es keine besonderen Einschränkungen, ein Insekt und ein Säugetier sind ebenso möglich wie eine Woodwalker- und eine Seawalker-Gestalt. Es zählten auch einige Tripel-Wandler zu den mythologischen Wandlern der Antike. So handelt es sich zum Beispiel bei einem Pegasus um einen Tripel-Wandler aus Pferd und Adler[4]. Herr der Gestalten Angeblich gibt es in jeder Generation einen Wandler, der sich in alle erdenklichen Tiere verwandeln kann. Er oder sie wird als Herr*in der Gestalten bezeichnet und stammte bisher immer aus Afrika.[26] Tatsächlich kann sich der Herr der Gestalten in alle Tiere verwandeln, die derzeit auf der Welt leben[27], allerdings im Gegensatz zu Tripel-Wandlern nur in ein Tier auf einmal[28]. Tsepo, der derzeitige Herr der Gestalten, berichtet, dass er sich als Kind ständig spontan in irgendetwas verwandelt hat und erst lernen musste, seine Fähigkeiten zu kontrollieren[29]. Außerdem könne er andere Gestalten als Erdmännchen höchstens einen Tag lang durchhalten, dann verwandle er sich zurück, ob er möchte oder nicht[30]. Seine Erdmännchengestalt ist seine angeborene Hauptgestalt, die er nicht ändern kann und in die sein Körper immer wieder zurückkehrt[31]. Vererbung des Wandler-Gens Wandler können sowohl mit anderen Wandlern als auch mit Menschen oder normalen Tieren Kinder zeugen. Das Kind kann sowohl ein Wandler als auch ein Mensch oder Tier werden, besitzt jedoch in jedem Fall immer noch das Wandler-Gen, sodass es an die Enkel vererbt werden kann, die wiederum Wandler werden können. Somit ist es möglich, dass beide Eltern Menschen ohne zweite Gestalt sind (zum Beispiel bei Zoey). Außerdem kann es vorkommen, dass Nachfahren von Wandlern sich zwar nicht verwandeln, aber Gedankensprache hören können, beispielsweise Lilla[32]. Bekommen zwei Wandler verschiedener Tierarten ein Kind, ist die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass es ein Wandler der ersten beziehungsweise zweiten Tierart oder ein Mensch wird, jeweils etwa ein Drittel[33]. Mischwesen der beiden Tierarten sind nicht möglich, es sei denn, es handelt sich um Tiere, die sich ohnehin miteinander paaren können (zum Beispiel können zwei Hundewandler ein Mischlingshund-Kind bekommen)[34]. In seltenen Fällen kann es außerdem vorkommen, dass das Kind nur eine Tier- und keine Menschengestalt hat, also ein normales Tier wird[34]. Was jedoch nicht möglich ist, ist ein Wandler, der nur zwei Tiergestalten besitzt; eine Gestalt ist immer menschlich[35]. Die Mutter sollte darauf achten, sich nicht während der Schwangerschaft zu verwandeln, da dies häufig zu Fehlgeburten führt[36]. Eine Besonderheit bei Wandlern ist, dass sie im Gegensatz zu vielen normalen Tieren auch in Tiergestalt meist nicht mehr als zwei oder drei Junge bekommen. In Menschengestalt hingegen ist die Wahrscheinlichkeit, Zwillinge zu bekommen, deutlich höher als bei normalen Menschen[37]. Zweieiige Zwillinge können unterschiedliche Tiergestalten haben, bei eineiigen Zwillingen ist das nicht möglich[38]. Katja Brandis hält es für möglich, dass auch das Sternzeichen Einfluss auf die zweite Gestalt haben kann[39]. Vererbung bei Tripel-Wandlern Die Chance, dass bei zwei normalen Wandlern verschiedener Tierarten ein Tripel-Wandler entsteht, ist verschwindend gering. Selbst, wenn ein Tripel-Wandler mit einem normalen Wandler ein Kind bekommt, ist die Chance auf ein Tripel-Wandler-Kind nur 5 bis 10 Prozent, was die Seltenheit von Tripel-Wandlern erklärt[40]. Bei zwei Tripel-Wandlern hat das Kind unter Garantie mindestens eine zweite Gestalt[41] und die Wahrscheinlichkeit eines Tripel-Wandler-Kindes liegt bei einem Drittel[4]. Advertisement Merkmale Wandler können sich sowohl komplett verwandeln als auch (bewusst oder unterbewusst) nur mit einzelnen Körperteilen die Gestalt wechseln ("Teilverwandlung"), was bei jedem Wandler unterschiedlich schnell möglich ist: Manche können sich schon als kleines Kind verwandeln, andere entwickeln diese Fähigkeit erst in der Pubertät[42]. Eine versehentliche (Teil-)Verwandlung kann vor allem durch Wut, Angst oder Überraschung hervorgerufen werden, aber auch bestimmte Gerüche erleichtern die Verwandlung. Sie macht sich durch ein bestimmtes Gefühl, das sogenannte Wandlerkribbeln, bemerkbar, welches man außerdem spürt, wenn man zum Beispiel ein Foto seiner Tierart sieht. Dieser Trick kann verwendet werden, um ohne tatsächliche Verwandlung herauszufinden, welche zweite Gestalt man besitzt, wie es beispielsweise bei Antonia der Fall ist. Die Proportionen bei einer Teilverwandlung entsprechen nicht immer der Realität, zum Beispiel hat der Tierkopf bei der sogenannten Ägyptischen Teilverwandlung die gleiche Größe wie der Menschenkopf (eine Ausnahme bilden Wandler mit der Skalenkrankheit). Bei der Teilverwandlung ist es auch möglich, sich zusätzliche Gliedmaßen zu geben und somit zum Beispiel einen Pegasus nachzustellen[43]. Lehnt man seine Tiergestalt zu stark ab, kann diese sich absichtlich bemerkbar machen und zum Beispiel zu einer spontanen Verwandlung führen[44]. Bei der Verwandlung verändert sich nicht nur das Aussehen, sondern auch die DNA selbst. In Menschengestalt hat man also nur Menschen-DNA in sich und als Tier nur Tier-DNA, weshalb Wandler auch durch einen Gentest nicht enttarnt werden können.[45] Kleidung und Accessoires wie Ohrringe verwandeln sich nicht mit und fallen bei der Verwandlung ab oder heraus, auch feste Zahnspangen gehen dabei kaputt. Objekte wie Implantate hingegen, die fest mit dem Körper verbunden sind und als Teil von diesem wahrgenommen werden, verwandeln sich mit und führen in der zweiten Gestalt nicht zu Problemen[46]. Die Verwandlung wird nicht behindert, sollte man zum Beispiel querschnittsgelähmt sein. Man kann sich weiterhin komplett verwandeln, wobei man in der anderen Gestalt ebenso gelähmt ist wie in der ersten[47]. Verliert ein Wandler, der in Tiergestalt mehr als vier Beine besitzt, in dieser Gestalt ein Bein, ist es gleichermaßen möglich, dass es ihm auch in erster Gestalt fehlt oder dass er als Mensch nichts davon merkt[48]. Es ist möglich, die Verwandlungsfähigkeit eines anderen Wandlers vorübergehend oder dauerhaft zu blockieren, diese Methode kennen jedoch nur Ratsmitglieder und Agenten des Rates. Bekannt ist nur, dass dafür zwei oder besser drei erfahrene Wandler benötigt werden[49]. Die Kinder von jemandem, dessen zweite Gestalt blockiert ist, sind davon nicht betroffen und können sich normal verwandeln[50]. Außerdem können sich Wandler mit einer blockierten Gestalt weiterhin in Gedanken verständigen[51]. Lebenserwartung und Wachstum Wandler haben unabhängig von ihrer zweiten Gestalt eine menschliche Lebenserwartung, sodass auch nur als Tier lebende Wandler sehr alt werden können[52]. Auch Schildkrötenwandler haben eine menschliche Lebenserwartung, können aber noch älter werden, wenn sie ausschließlich in ihrer zweiten Gestalt leben[53]. Die Entwicklung des Tieres ist an die eines Menschen angepasst, sodass zum Beispiel Carag im Alter von 13 Jahren immer noch kein ausgewachsener Puma ist[54]. In Menschengestalt wachsen Wandler allerdings schneller als normale Menschen und erreichen ihre endgültige Körpergröße schon mit 13 oder 14 Jahren, wenn sie als normales Tier zu diesem Zeitpunkt bereits ausgewachsen wären[55]. Auch auf geistiger Ebene sind Wandler früher als Menschen und später als Tiere erwachsen[56]. Aussehen Wandler unterscheiden sich in ihrer Menschengestalt kaum von normalen Menschen, nur ihre Bewegungen wirken weicher und geschmeidiger.
