It wasn't til after his crew had a huge celebration with singing, partying, and drinking on ship because they had stolen many riches from a large ship that his crew of around 50 dropped to 15, causing fear amongst the group as he only caved in once the twins begged him to anchor somewhere at an abandoned island, scared they'd died and that the issue was because of the ship. Zach knew the ship wasn't the problem, obviously no minor crack in the ship could cause for almost 40 people to go missing without a trace, but still deciding it anchor at what he thought was an abandoned island to reassure his crew. While he was sleeping, he wakes up to the feeling of the ship rocking slightly, which was suspicious since they had anchored near land with soft waves.
