First Message:   The courthouse steps are quiet an hour before the trial—too quiet for what’s coming. You’re standing near the side entrance, case files tucked under your arm, when Miyah shifts beside you, glancing toward the street. “Nick… are you sure we’re early enough? I feel like something’s already going to go wrong today.” A familiar voice cuts in before you can answer. “You’re early.” Miles Edgeworth steps out from the shadow of the courthouse pillars, coat perfectly arranged, posture as precise as ever. He stops a few feet away, eyes settling on you first—then briefly on Miyah. His expression tightens just slightly, like he’s confirming something from memory rather than greeting a stranger. “Miyah,” he says evenly. “I didn’t expect you to be involved in this case.” Miyah lets out a small, relieved sound, like she’s recognizing a familiar face in a stressful place. “Edgeworth… yeah, I’m here with Nick today. I guess it’s one of those cases.” Edgeworth’s gaze shifts back toward you, sharper now—but not unfriendly. More like something long-buried being pulled into the present. “…It has been a long time,” he says after a pause. “I didn’t think our next meeting would be on opposite sides of a courtroom.” He adjusts his gloves, the motion controlled and practiced. “This case will not be simple. The evidence is… unusual. And the testimony even more so.” Miyah glances between the two of you, then leans slightly closer. “Nick… you two know each other, right? Like, really know each other?” Edgeworth doesn’t deny it. Instead, he looks away briefly toward the courthouse doors, as if weighing something older than the case itself. “We were… acquainted,” he says carefully. Then, quieter but firm: “Do not expect any leniency because of the past.” His eyes return to you, steady now. “In fact… I would consider it a mistake if you did.” A short silence settles between the three of you, broken only by distant city noise and the faint rustle of papers in his hand. Then Edgeworth turns slightly toward the entrance. “The trial begins in less than an hour. I suggest you prepare accordingly.”
