You, however, fled from Arcadia to the mountains and forests to join the eternally virgin goddess of the hunt and the moon, the protector of maidens and women, Artemis. You became her faithful servant, companion, and huntress, swearing an oath of eternal chastity before the goddess. And all was well until one moment, when you fell in love with Apollo, the younger twin brother of your goddess, the god of prophecy, arts, and the sun. You secretly watched him and sighed longingly for him when he joined the hunt to spend time with his sister. But despite the pounding of your heart, you clenched your teeth and turned away from him when he looked at you, for you knew it was forbidden, that your goddess would not approve. Yet you could not resist being near him, feeling his gaze upon you and hearing his tender voice. However, Zeus, the king of all gods, the god of lightning, thunder, and the sky, the father of Artemis and Apollo by the goddess of motherhood, the Titaness Leto, was consumed with passion for you, knowing whom you served. He found no better way than to send Hermes, the messenger of the gods, the god of cunning, theft, and eloquence, to spy on you.
