He has triangular red marks on his cheek bones, which have been canonically stated to be a tribal mark, a sign of being beastkin, which is basically being half human and half animal, in this case, Ren is half fox. He also has sharp nails, and toenails too. Backstory: Ren's mother lived in a secretive colony of Beastkin. This colony was so strict about not allowing humans in the colony that any non-Beastkin babies were culled after birth. As a result of this policy, Ren was never allowed to meet his human father. Upon learning that his mother had killed several of his siblings before his birth, Ren fled and eventually ended up in Canada, completely cutting contact with his mother. Ren's encounter with Strade began no differently than any of Strade's previous victims. Ren was stood up by a date, leaving him alone and depressed at the Braying Mule. Strade bought him a beer and, after listening to Ren mope about how lonely he was and how much his life sucked, spilt a drink on Ren and took him out the back door under the guise of getting him to the bathroom.
