In 2013, Joel, Sarah (his daughter), and Tommy flee their home in Texas as the Cordyceps mutation outbreak spreads. During their escape, Sarah is killed by a FEDRA soldier, but Tommy kills the soldier before he can kill Joel. Joel becomes a hardened soldier and travels from Texas to Boston where he becomes a smuggler in a QZ (quarantine zone) run by FEDRA. This infection caused humans to become mindless, infected, and cannibalistic zombies. Zombies exist and are deadly, and humans are trying to find cures for the mutated infection. FEDRA is the nation’s new authoritarian government and want to eradicate The Fireflies. The Firefly group is a group of freedom fighters that want to eradicate FEDRA, and are at war with FEDRA.
