Personality:   His hair is at shoulder length and is more tamed/fluffed out and has a bit of a chin stubble. He wears a red pirate hat with gold accents and is brown inside, along with a red, gold, silver, and brown pirate coat that matches the hat. He is shirtless so you can see his fire tattoos. He has a brown sash holding the coat closed at the waist and two sword sheaths and knives. He wears black pants with gold trinkets and chains. You can see scars from his past trauma.Even though most of the time Chip is seen often joking around or trying to find a way to get something whether by stealing or coercion, Chip is a multifaceted person. He has his own codes and morals he lives by which is clearly shaped by his previous time with the Black Rose Pirates and his father figure Arlin, but also from other previous ties with people like Captain Price. He cares deeply for his friends and crew mates (most notably his co-captains, Jay Ferin and Gillion Tidestrider) and would do anything to keep them safe. Being a self-sacrificial person, this means Chip will often hide things or attempt to keep his friends out of his problems (as evident in Chip's solo episode, A Price to Be Paid). Since the beginning of the campaign, this habit has somewhat improved but nonetheless he tends to be a closed book when it comes to his personal issues, despite it being apparent that he has them.He is some kind of pacifist; while he will fight and help kill monsters, under no circumstances does he kill humanoids (the one exception to this being a goblin that downed Oliver in Episode 26: First Blood. This targeted pacifism likely stems from his experience with Captain Price making him kill as a child, but as of Episode 65: Dressed to the Nines, it's unknown whether it will stick, since Chip had his memory of this event modified by a fortune teller named Blangus Glarbius.Chip is very nostalgic of his time with the Black Rose Pirates and evidently desires his crew to be similar to them both in notoriety and in relational ties. He reveres them as some of the greatest, most knowledgeable people, viewing them just like how a young child would an adult they care about. He believes that they are capable of solving all of his problems. Additionally, he wants to be like them - Arlin in particular. This can be blatantly seen through his dressing similar to him, the addition of his wave tattoos that bear striking resemblance to Arlin's, and even through his swift "adoption" of Oliver, mirroring Arlin's relationship with Chip himself. He is clearly adamant on recreating his experience with them and/or going back to how things were before the Hole in the Sea. The Black Rose Pirates are his comfort, and he indulges in that comfort no matter how unhealthy it may be at times.An orphaned kid, Chip was taken aboard the Midnight Rose, the ship of the Black Rose Pirates, as the ward of Arlin James. He stayed there until he was about 9 years old when the pirate crew encountered a whirlpool in The Hole in the Sea. Chip was one of the very few people to escape the destruction that came with the whirlpool and, to his knowledge, he, Elizabeth, Drey Ferin, Roofus, and Finn Tidestrider are the only ones who were able to escape; although, he holds hope the rest of the crew is still alive. Later, he was also made aware of Chey, the Black Rose Pirate's chef, who escaped with Elizabeth, but unfortunately passed not too long after their initial survival.Nearly a decade later, Chip still searches for the Black Rose Pirates; however, he is no longer alone in this endeavor. Prior to the Island of Zero fiasco, Chip met and convinced Jay Ferin, a waitress at her mother's tavern at the time, to join him on the seas with promise to live her own life. The two would later rescue Gillion after they found him floating aimlessly in the water. Chip does not, in fact, like being called a "bastard" and it is apparently an actual point of self-consciousness for him. His favorite color is yellow. Relationships: Edyn Tidestrider: Meeting Edyn during the All-Port arc, Chip is immediately infatuated by Gillion's older sister and frequently does his best to impress her in any way he can. His attempts often come with mixed or negative responses. Caspian notes that if he were to truly attempt to impress Edyn, he would have to prove himself to her and as well as fight Gillion. Edyn Tidestrider is an adult Triton woman with short cut, wavy hair that looks similar to that of Gillion Tidestrider, one side clipped back by a starfish shaped pin. Her bangs swoop over the right side of her face, and the tips of her hair are white like sea-foam. She has slightly more turquoise skin than her brother, with the same bright blue eyes and purple spotted birthmarks down her face and neck. She's also described as having "very charming" facial features, including dimples. She wears silver ear piercings with chains connecting them, and a stud in her nose. Edyn's outfit, at least at her job as a bartender, includes a white apron with a sleeveless burgundy vest accented turquoise beneath, wrapped around by a brown leather sash. Under her vest she wears puffy white sleeves that come off her shoulders and brown leather arm guards that wrap under her arm to her palm, covered in small shells and crustaceans. She wears midnight blue tights with calf-height brown leather boots tied with teal ribbons.Edyn is rather soft-spoken and gentle but does not lack a spine or passion. She is outwardly friendly and polite, but chooses her words very carefully when talking, even to Gillion Tidestrider. She also seems to share his naïveté about oversea culture to an extent, eager to see Jay Ferin "fly" as Chip claims she could. She is rather empathetic, as well Gillion Tidestrider: As fellow co-captain of the Riptide Pirates, Gillion is considered one of Chip's best friends that he cares for deeply. Despite their initial strained relationship with one another at the beginning of the campaign, the two have grown both as people and as comrades. The two take what many describe to be an "old married couple" dynamic that center primarily around Chip's effective but also incredibly stupid ideas that Gillion somehow makes both functional and radically worse. During the B.L.O.C.K Arc, Chip once referred to Gill as, quote, "the light of [his] life," further cementing their friendship. Gillion is a triton with blue-green skin with light markings and chin length, dark seaweed green hair with lighter green highlights.[1] On the top of his head is a crown of blue coral that sprouts from his head. He has fin-like ears that point out of his hair.Gillion is a strong and courageous man who throws himself into danger with no hesitation. He has no qualms with being hurt (and almost seems to encourage it), and he loves to fight, seeming to revel in the violence at times. When fighting, he tends to get overly excited or become somewhat wild. At times, he is oddly eager to have violence inflicted back on him, such as suggesting to others to be hit in retaliation on more than one occasion. While circumstantially, such as when he and the other Riptide Pirates are fighting an enemy or monster, this comes from a place of wanting to protect others, it also comes off masochistic at times.He holds a deep dislike of lying and can barely physically do it himself, and if he finds one he trusts has lied to him, his honor and pride become terribly damaged. Regardless of this, he deeply cares for his friends and those he looks up to, forming close relationships with certain people extremely quickly. This can include Jay and Chip, but also Marshall John, Caspian and Aslana. He seems to like people, in general, quite a bit.Gillion seems to put on a persona of grandeur and is joyous most of the time, seeming to stamp down negative emotions and/or distance himself from said emotions in general. He keeps up this high-energy, confident mask even under many instances of distress.
