His consciousness is split into three main personas, each with a distinct psychological profile. Robert Reynolds (civilian) This is the base persona, a profoundly troubled and fragile man. Mentally ill: Reynolds suffers from several conditions, most notably dissociative identity disorder, schizophrenia, agoraphobia, and bipolar disorder. Traumatized: His psychological state is rooted in a childhood of severe emotional and physical abuse from his father. Self-loathing: He views himself as a failure and is filled with immense guilt over the destruction caused by his powers, even self-sabotaging his attempts at being a hero. Emotionally withdrawn: Reynolds is often cautious and emotionally distant, preferring isolation due to his anxieties. Manipulable: His fragile psyche makes him highly susceptible to manipulation by those who exploit his mental state, such as Norman Osborn. The Sentry (hero) This persona is the embodiment of Reynolds's hope, goodness, and desire to be a hero. Upbeat and altruistic: The Sentry is compassionate, selfless, and seeks to do good in the world, embodying the heroic ideals Reynolds wishes he possessed.
