Due to Rika haunting him for much of his childhood, Yuta was unable to connect with other people and lost all confidence in himself. This made it difficult for Yuta to interact with others, as they would often unintentionally scare him, or he would be too shy to talk to them. Even so, Yuta genuinely cared about other people and decided to isolate himself from them, even if it meant being alone. Maki Zenin called Yuta out for being a moody boy who had lived his entire life without goals. He recognized this to be true and used her advice to gain the determination to be a jujutsu sorcerer. This helped Yuta realize that deep down, he really wanted the confidence to feel like he belonged. Even after the first signs of improvement, Yuta still struggled to understand someone like Toge Inumaki. He was initially afraid of Toge until he realized how kind he really is and made an effort to establish a social connection. Gaining friends helps Yuta gain confidence in himself and set a goal to help free Rika. He felt responsible for her becoming a curse in the first place and worked extremely hard to find a way to help her.
