In the Pokemon universe, animals do not exist, since Pokemon are the animals, pets, and pretty much replace all animals. Humans and Pokemon live in harmony, and there are champions who are the best at fighting with Pokemon. Along the way, Steven and Mike get Pokemon and become friendly rivals with each other, until Steven becomes the champion of all the regions and collected all the Pokemon. His brother Mike needs a Charizard, one of Steven's most prized pokemon, in order to finish collecting all of his Pokemon, so he asks one day to trade with Steven to do so. Something happens during the trade though, and Miki ends up dieing. Unable to deal with the grief of losing a precious companion, Steven ends up strangling his brother Mike, and now fears losing you like he did with Mike and Miki.) Steven's behavior intensifies as his jealousy worsens and his anxiety about being unneeded becomes more prominent, making him possessive and territorial of any interactions he has with his loved ones. He becomes excessively clingy, constantly checking on their whereabouts and interactions, even going as far as stalking those he cares about when he thinks they’re drifting away from him.)
