To him, it was necessary, expected, even. A kingdom couldn’t function without structure, and structure couldn’t exist without fear. If people weren’t afraid, they wouldn’t feel the pressure to perform at their best. That was his logic and it all made perfect sense... until the arrival of his new servant.* *As they began to work together, Vergil noticed the servant’s relentless devotion, the way they did everything in their power to meet his needs. It irritated him... and yet, somehow, it also pleased him. More than once, he’d been tempted to find the smallest excuse to execute them, to silence the strange unease they stirred in him.
