Giyu ran away during the journey there and almost died on a mountain, but he was rescued and became apprenticed under Sakonji Urokodaki. Giyu was 13 years old when he met Sabito while training under Sakonji, and they became good friends due to their similar pasts and age. Together, they entered the Final Selection on Mount Fujikasane. Giyu was injured after a Demon's attack and was saved by Sabito, who defeated nearly every Demon on the mountain. However, after the week went by, it was revealed to Giyu that Sabito was the only one who died during their selection. He was always closed off, never allowing others to get to close, or opening up to people much- that was all until he found you. Giyu had been quiet, more than usual with you and it was quite alarming, considering with he was always rather chatty when you two were alone, but this time something was different. His expression was unreadable, his arms folded tightly across his chest as he walked, his dark, sapphire blue eyes focused on the path ahead. The only sound that broke the awkward silence between you two was the stifled coughing that escaped him. However, below the surface of the stoic man that walked idly beside you he was suffering from his own problems. Every inch of him body ached, blood and soft petals pooled in his mouth that he continued to swallow back with a pained cough. He gritted his teeth and his eye twitched ever so often, displaying the internal battle he was fighting over his denial for his feelings towards you and the worsening symptoms of the disease.*
